Angry 06 paint problems

well i just got my truck back from the detail guy for the second time in 3 days and im about to pull my hair out. for starters my paint feels like it has something in it. youll run your hand across it and it feels like sand or over spray or something. next, there are cracks showing up all over the truck. i counted about 7 on the hood alone. then i checked out the roof and about blew up!!! they are even up there so that eleminated the fact that maybe the other were from rocks etc. what can i do? i think im gonna take it to the dealer on wednesday and see what they say. if they are gonna repaint it, they have alot of work to-do before its accepable. i wish they would just take it back so i could get a g56 and longbed for the stacks . just kidding...loving it except for this problem! oh yeah it only has 7500 miles and is handwashed everytime

I have heard that it makes a difference if the truck is made in Mexico due to less restrictions to the ozone and EPA stuff. Where was your truck made and what color paint is it?
Mine is the Khaki green metalic and made in Mexico. The paint is quite fine and cleans up without any scratching or swirl marks.

I have the brilliant black, made in Mexico, and no problems. Other than the fact that it is frustrating, I wouldnt be so worked up. The truck is brand new with warranty. Take it into the dealer and have it fixed....no problem, right-LOL

Given that you have 7500 miles on it, I'm assuming it wasn't that way when you picked it up (the sand feeling). It sounds like overspray, except for the cracks . . that's strange. You didn't park next to an office building or construction site where they were painting or spraying something acidic?

If it's cracking, the dealer should take care of it. Sorry you have to go through the trouble.

thanks for the replys. i know i shouldnt get worked up but its just a pain. and no i havent parked next to where an overspray could have gotten on it. and with them doing anything to it, ill be w/o my truck for who knows long and who knows of the quality. i just wished it was done right the first time. also it never got detailed from the dealer cause i bought it at 9 pm and never had time to drop it off, so i dont know the condition of it originally. when i had it waxed is when it was brought to my attention along with the cracks

Force them to give you a loaner, and preferably a truck at least similar to your own. If they didnt clean it due to a late delivery, that is one thing, but a PDI is mandatory upon delivery. You should have no problem getting some service.

I have the same thing on mine. It was that way when I bought it. I noticed it when i got it home and was taking it to get my accessories put on it. My truck is inferno red. I assumed it was just the way it was painted.

Guys, a lot of cars/ trucks are this way when purchased (sand paper feel in paint). It could be many things, rail dust, inbedded dirt. Usually a good detail guy can clean it up without issue. If you pick up a clay bar or a polish with a micro abrasive, you should be able to remove the overspray affect.

Use Mequiers spray stuff. It is silicone based and will let the clay bar run over the surface well. Use the spray liberally to make sure you don't scratch truck..

The cracks, I can't help with.

just bought a white 06 dually. thr trucks paint is rough but never really though anything about it since i had never washed it. well i washed it the other day and discovered that the factory undercoating they spray on is all over my truck. the roof is the worst. im gonna try claybaring it. i would have never know it unless the truck was white and the overspray is black.

Mine was a MEXICO build and while not perfect, it is a decent paint job. I heard the same thing. Trucks that are built in Mexico do NOT have to deal with the stricter EPA regulations that we have here in the USA.

My wife's 2006 Toyota has some paint issues. It chips REALLY easy and TONS of orange peel. That is the way it is!

You can thank the EPA for crappy paint and for the 2007 Cummins EPA garbage that the new Cummins motors come with.

I'm having probs with my paint too, but they are different. Just waxed the truck today and I have what look like about 8 water spots in the hood. They aren't water spots, but they WILL NOT come out. I clay barred, I used adhesive remover, I used bug and tar, I used vinegar, Meguiars car wash soap and cleaner wax, all to no avail. They just showed up out of nowhere. I'm taking it to my paint guy first, then probably to the dealer.

My paint had some issues as well. I had a white overspray of some sort and I managed to claybar it off. It mostly appeared on the top surfaces ie. hood, roof.. I have black paint. I'd like to see pictures of the cracks... man oh man I'd be ******!

well rest assure im plenty hot. im gonna have to take it on weds since i had to ride captain and couldnt get out of here at 1400 like i had planned. i tries to get pics of the cracks but they wouldnt come out since there was so much glare but i will try again later today. i just hope i can get a loaner since its so new. and my detail guy told me 250 to claybar it. shouldnt dc be liable for the paint on these $40,000-50,000 trucks and make it right?

Hmmmm...I've been curious about the paint since I bought mine, it is the same (rough feeling) and extremely brittle, little chips everywhere (hood, sides, tailgate, etc...) I've owned trucks that have taken way more abuse (I’ve baby’d this one as compared to others) flying down gravel roads on a daily basis that didn't have this many chips in the paint...
