'06 2wd mpg's?

My girlfriend is looking at an 06 2500 quad cab shotrtbed 2wd with an auto matic tranny. We test drove it yesterday and saw an average of 26 mpg's on the overhead. I know those things can be optomistic so I was going to see what kind of mpg's some of you with similar trucks were getting.

Thanks

Were getting solid 25.5+ mpg hand calculated on a 2006 2wd Mega Cab with 90% highway driving UNDER 2,000 rpm.

The best i've seen was 23.3 hand calc. The usual is 17-19 city depending on how i drive and highway 20-23 once again dependant on the skinny pedal.

My truck has been getting a solid 16.5-17 mpg mixed city and congested highway. Two weeks ago I went to the track and saw egt's near 1790* at the end of the run.

This fill up, first since track night, my truck is up to a hand calculated 18.1 mpg. My driving habits have not changed in the last 2 weeks, I really think the high EGT's cleaned the carbon from the motor and made it run more efficient. My truck did see 3900+ RPM on one run and many said I probably had valve to piston contact with stock valvetrain so it's possible my "shortened" valves and or "custom fly cut" pistons are to blame for the increased fuel economy.
