Any ideas to increase initial horsepower in reverse

I have a 2001 auto trans. with 156,000 which I use to haul Hallmark slide in camper for recreation.
I find it very hard to back the truck up in reverse up hill from a stand still.
When I give it more gas it just puffs black smoke and doesn't want to move.
Any ideas how to increase RPM's on an automatic trans to get it over the hump.
Once the truck is rolling and the RPM's increase it does fine.
Just replaced Air filter with K&N and did not help.
thanks

You might want to look into a 2wd Lo kit. They are ideal for pulling/backing trailers around

It is 4x4 and I will try the low gear next time.
One more reason to go with the standard transmission next time.

4 low will make a huge difference.
There was a write up on how to wire up a toggle switch so you cut out the vacuum to the front dif when you put it in 4low so you dont engage the front dif and dont get the crab walking. I cant find it but maybe someone will put up the link.
