Bad Smell in Cab, spilled milk.

Help!! My wife spilled about a gallon of milk under the back seat of the mega cab, and with the temps rising its getting unbearable. Smells like someone played a dirty trick on me and rolled up a diaper and stuffed it under the seat Any ideas on getting it out. We wiped up what we could, washed, scrubbed and shop vacced the rest, but I am afraid its all under the braces and I will have to pull the seat out to get it all. We have used carpet cleaner, febreze, enzyme pet odor eater, and numerous air fresheners to know avail. There can't be much there cuz there is no stain or milk crusties, but its enough to raise a stink. I am going to try a liberal dousing of baking soda and some more shop vaccing, but anyone got anything else. Someone said coffee grounds, but I am afraid that could be a pain to get back out of the carpet, and might add to the smell rather then help it.

If all else fails, any tips on removing the back seat?

It's all under the carpet. if you didn't haul away a whole gallon in the cleanup, then it's still there. You'd best get that carpet up and out of there.

Just resign yourself to removing the interior. You have to get the carpet up.

Not sure if it would work but charcoal in a container of some sort usually absorbs odors pretty well, I would try that before removing my interior.

I was afraid that was the verdict. I will try some more home remedies before this weekend, when I might get time to pull it out.

Just remember, if you don't walk away with a bucket of milk, you will still have a bucket of milk down in there.

I know, but its hard to know what the proverbial bucket of milk looked like when you weren't actually the one that spilt the milk.

Maybe I will just go haul a load of hogs with it, that should take care of the milk smell.

Go to a local distributor of cleaning chemicals. They will have a deodorizer with a "quat" in it. It is used in hospitals, horse stalls, anywhere where there is an animal odor involved. Use that in your cleaning chemicals and also "after" you remove that carpet so you can properly clean it and under the carpet. If that fails, get a small ozone machine and put it in there for a few hours - - don't go in it until it is completely aired out afterwards.

I've used ozone machines when I have had to remove odors in commercial rehabs (mainly smoke smell from fire).

Before I would pull the interior and carpet I would use carpet cleaner and warm water and flood the back area and shop vac it at the lowest point then repeat a few times with lots of water. After final shop vac put a fan in truck to get it dry. My uncle hoses out his truck and the padding smells until it dries so if you clean it and get it dry quickly it should work. Worth a try before gutting interior.

I'd try using some oxyclean mixed with the water that you're gonna be sucking up with the shopvac. It will disinfect, or kill the bacteria that is making the smell

Friend had a car that wreaked of sour milk and cigarette smoke. I borrowed a Hydroxyl generator. We put it in the car for 3 days and the smell [s] has never come back. We did remove and clean as much as possible prior to using the unit...the smell may have been much worse had we not removed seats and carpet and cleaned first. We thought we had it beat til the heat hit and WOW was it nasty. The hydroxyl unit eliminates VOC's and kills all bacteria.

Years ago when my little one (not so little anymore) spilled milk in the car I used white vinegar - that seemed to take care of the smell... If you do so, test a small area to make sure it won't discolor the carpet...

Dad said that happened to him when he was a teenager, delivering milk around the Schleswig Ia. area. He never got the smell out so he sold the car in the winter when it didn't smell. The same thing happened in the family station wagon when my kiddies were little and I did the same thing dad did! I just remembered something... I left a 1 lb tube of hamburger in our rv frig one summer, here in nice cool Az. and I could smell it from 50' away before I figured out the smell was coming from the rv. I alternated cleaning with bleach and then a soup of baking soda/water about 6 time and got rid of the smell completely. I'd let the soda soup dry on and then wash it off. Except you don't want bleach for your problem - maybe oxyclean or vinager. Anyway, you need to use a lot of liquid to wash any remaining milk away. Craig

I agree with you on the bugs causing the smell ..use any type of disinfectant, pine-sol or oxyclean
