I think I need an injector
I have a 2003 3500 Dually Common Rail with the 305 hp motor. It has an auto tranny. This is my first diesel truck and I dont know much about them. I just got it last year. It has 138k on it. I just put a new head and #6 piston in it. And now this crap. Good thing I got it pretty cheap. When I start my truck up it starts smoking. Its not just a lillte puff, it stays steady pouring out. Its coming out of the blowby tube. Its a blueish color. Someone told me its an injector. It continues even when it gets warm. I tried dumping lucas injector cleaner in but hasnt done anything yet. Its been about 2 days for the lucas stuff. Its been blowing this smoke out for prob. 2 weeks. Dont know how much longer it will last. Does anybody have any injectors or know of someone that can get one? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

An injector is surely a big possibility. Problem for smoke is injector is not closing completely and is dumping extra fuel into the cylinder. It can get worse and start dumping fuel into the oil which can lead to a new engine.

i had the same prob on my 03 take the valve cover off and start the engine and let it idle do not give it any fuel look and see if one of the injectors are smoking or if it is shooting fuel out one of mine were so bad that it pumped about 2 gallons of fuel in the oil and burned to bearings out of my charger. when i took the valve cover off and started it was shooting fuel to the hood i also had one that was smoking so i had 2 bad if it is coming out of the blow by tube stop driving the truck now another thing to do is check your oil and see if it is over full it will pump the motor full of fuel very fast

when i lost an injector there was no white smoke but my fuel pressure gauge said 0 or 1 and i then discovered there was a oil diesel mix all over the underside of my truck that was coming from the overflow tube. hope that might help
