Has anyone fixed there hard start issue

I have looked and looked to see what people have done to correct thier hard start issue. But there is not one thread that the person who asked the question telling what was done to correct it or if it still has the start issue.

I have an 03 and am wits end trying to figure this thing out. Can you guys shed some light on what you did to correct it?

Thanks.

For the '03, it seems most believe it is leaky sticks. Remove them and send them out to Formula One to test, repair and re-tip.

What does that cost and how long does it take them to repair?

Their homepage is http://www.f1diesel.com/ and the list of different sticks are http://www.f1diesel.com/injectorsecho.html but when you call the dealer folks or chat with F1 here, they will tell you there are many variations. They will make what you need, depending on how you use your CTD. Mine will go in next month, not for hard starting starting though, I would like a bit more HP and I tow a 5th wheel about 5k miles a year (12 next year). Mine only has 176k miles on it so far.

Like already mentioned, injectors seem to be the culprit a large percentage of the time on the 03's.And unless Don(F1) has changed his services, he won't just fix them.He will repair them if you are also getting them upgraded.

Don M is the best solution. I tried to tell myself the injectors were not the problem, and finally gave in, took them out and sent them to Don. all six were bad. Don took them, and sent me back the greatest investment in my truck so far (flux 1's)

I had a hard start problem on my 05. One of the injectors had high back flow. I had Don repair it, and end of problem.

I think I paid around 1500. cant remember now! either way, it was waaaaay better than the 5k the dealer wanted. Don M had them fixed and returned to me in 5 days. I think that was on the extremely fast side.

Got a set of injectors Monday to do the swap. I hope this will fix the issue.

I have taken to 2 different shops. The first one did some sort of thing. They enabled and disenabled each injector. That made the engine act funny then it would come back up to a normal idle. When he got to 4 and 5 it didn't change like the others did. He stated that they were getting weak. ( don't know what that means). Then the other shop said CP3 was going bad but they said that they have never worked on a common rail before.

So from what everybody is saying here, research , the first shop and including what you guys are saying i went ahead and got them.

I will keep everyone posted if this fixes it.

I have an 05' with 68k miles on it. Is the hard starting issue you are talking about occasional and to describe it sometimes it just does not want to turn over when starting it almost sounds like trying to start a flooded engine. Those are the symptoms which mine is exhibiting.

And if that is the case how could I get the retards at the dealership *********** to correctly diagnose this before my 70k mile warranty is up.

The hard starting that we are talking about, is that the engine cranks fine, but has to crank a long time before it starts running.

As far as the dealer... They have a procedure to check the back flow (return fuel flow). If the total value is to high, then it can be isolated one place at a time. i.e. each injector, and the relief valve.

Did the switch today. Looks like that might have fixed it. I went ahead and replaced all 6 injectors.

Drove her down the rode until hot, shut her off. She fired right back up. Drove home, shut her off. Waited 1/2 hour, she fired right back up. So I think I got her.

Thanks guys for all the information.
