Yes kinda a joke. I don't tow, I once had to do a favor for a buddy and move a fork lift across town. That sucked bad. I never got out of 3rd gear, and had to use first for the first time in my life to take off. Wont ever do that again!

good there are a lot of people that run without them and a first gens brakes are definitely not good enough for that.

I've got a basic tecomseh controller in one truck and a prodigy 2 in another. I definitely like the prodigy and for the price I think it works great!

just ordered the Prodigy 2 for $105 from hitchanything.com

since my old controller is so ancient I also ordered the 20' brake mate kit adapter (with 20' of wire), which runs another $56

also bought a six-prong round female plug end that I'll wire by splicing off wires to my flat four-prong plug

I called maxbrake an told them the model of my truck (1991.5) and they sent me the proper fittings......this was about 2006 or 2007.

is basically useless since the big trailers I've pulled all have the large blade-style RV plug

so I ordered the correct truck-end plug and it's back to the shop to get it wired up

I think i have every plug on my truck. When i fixed the original plug i added the others. Was easier then keeping up with adapters and what not.

Mine's wired 7 way RV, and I have adapters for everything else. Can pretty much hook up and go with anything.

maxbrake is the only safe true controller made. it is a modern solid state version of the Hayes. the maxbrake makes the other controllers like the p3 look like junk toys that they are.

Got a Prodigy. Find it to be smoother and more consistent than the pendulum style controllers, but find that if I set it to be aggressive enough at highway speeds, I have to turn it down when I get into the city. Seems to be a common complaint with these.

the maxbrake has a sensor that measures the hydraulic brake pressure, it senses the number of axles you have and sends a instant and direct proportion braking signal to the trailer. it is the only safe and effective controller on the market. once you try one you will never use anything else.
