Oops Electrical Fire!

Well i havent had marker lights for a while and tonite i finished fixin it, now i have markers when i connect a wire from a ign, power fuse but they are on as soon as the ign is on. And in the process of moving wires the connector came of one of the wires and shorted out. i repaired the connector and now no headlights? I know shame on me for not disconnected the battery ground. Believe me i felt like such a dumb*** afterwards. Any help would be appreciated. 93 dually conversion

Sounds like you finished frying the half-fried headlight switch.

I'm NOT familiar with this particular truck, but: on many Mopars & others when something like this goes wrong you can disconnect battery cables and leave sit for a bit, like 5 minutes, then reconnect battery. Has to sit disconnected a few minutes to completely power down. On many vehicles this allows computers to 'reset' and can be a quick fix for a lot of weird problems. Again, don't know if it applies to this truck and others may have more info.

Had a late 80's Dodge van stop cold and feared the worst. No starter, no ignition, all kinds of electrical stuff dead. Friend told me about this, followed instructions and presto, all systems normal!

Ooops, we posted at the same time. Anyways, file this info away, guys, it can be a real help if you're stranded out in the middle of nowhere or even stranded when ya do know where...

The computer doesn't control much in these trucks built before the 94 m/y. Definitely not the lights.

As long as it is light out, all you need for these things to get home with is a foot and a half of wire, and good batteries, cables, and starter. If you've put the fuel shut-off on a cable you don't even need the foot of wire. With a manual all you need is a hill, don't even need the starter and battery cables.

Wish I had time and money to put a 4x4 together for my sister for the fact these are so simple. She's talking to moving up around Spokane somewhere and drives a Neon.
