After tearing into it the ring and pinion look alright and the slop looks to be in the carrier gears. The axles are 35 spline with bolts retaining them. Hmmm?

Is the bolts / nuts and cones a general rule or definate to the spline count?
Or did I count wrong?

Would these parts take care of my issues?

I'd like to find a posi carrier so the hunt is on. Pm me is someone has one for sale. What do you guys think a fair price for a used one would be?

Thanks

We can't see your shopping cart. Post a link to the parts in a page.

I havent seen a 71 with bolt in axles. But that doesn't mean they might not be out there.

If I can't open a L/S up and look the plates over. I don't pay much. A plate kit runs around $75 to $100. If the seller will not guarantee good internals offer $100 or so for a L/S carrier.

Will do. I'll get all the numbers off the rear and see how much this adds up to be.

hey-Hey!!!,
Of the three non-IC'd trucks I have had, there were two nuts/cones 35-spline and one bolts 32 spline 3.07 axle. Both 91's were 727 trucks and were OE with 3.07. The 1990 came with 4.10 and a G360 and now it has 35-spline posi 3.07's and an NV5600. The 1990's axle is of an unknown vintage( though I suspect it was from a Gen1 of 1989 or 1990 ). Numbers way too resty to even find let alone read.
cheers,
Douglas

What do you guys think about the Power lok? An aftermarket version of dana's posi? Same better worse? I just don't know about a used one I may need to rebuild anyway any really didn't save any money.

If you have to spend money to replace a bad open carrier assy. Spend the money on some sort of L/S unit instead.

I don't know anyone that has used that brand of L/S unit.

BTW that one link for a bearing and seal will not work on a 70 axle. It is for a 9.25" Dodge corperate axle.

That is what comes from the factory in a dana when ordered with posi. It works great, and is totally rebuildable with readily available parts.

Are you sure the slop you have can't be adjusted out by tightening the pinion in tighter to the ring gear? If you have too much slop in your drive shaft, it CAN be from a loose pinion. They suggest you use the OLD crush sleeve in the pinion to find where you want your adjustment, then put a new one in (in case you go in to far and have to back off). Try tightening the pinion gear and you might get out of this for cheap.

ummmm...the D70 does not use a sleeve, that's D60 stuff.
