2 stroke oil in fuel tank

A friend of mine said to put some 2 stroke oil in my fuel tank he said it will lubricate the pump and all the seals. Does anyone else do this?

I use to use the use motor oil(waste) from my 6bt and put that back into the tank. Just watch your EGT's, with a busy schedule and long trips I don't do it anymore. The diesel is more than enough to lubricate the pump though.

Typically 2 stroke oil helps if you put gas in the tank

I run 1 oz of 2 cycle oil per gallon of fuel. The reasoning is that the sulfur that they took out of the fuel was the lubricant for the injector pump, as I understand it...Mark

Yeah, I would look at your gas station to see what they run. We still have a mix of sulfer here, some gas stations have the sulfur free diesel or ultra low. Oil in the tank wont hurt anything, will help with the MPG as you won't have to pay for anything. I just find when I'm burning about a gallon of wast oil to about 30 gallons of diesel it burns hotter. Maybe it's just me, totally manageable though.

I always dump a bit in. It seems to be a smidgen quieter with it too. It could be in my head though.

Mine seems to run a bit quieter with some oil in the fuel,
The bit about sulphur being a " lubricate" in the fuel is a wives tale( let the argument begin) but it IS true that the ultra- low deisel doesn't lubricate as well.
It won't hurt anything at all, although its important to filter used oil before putting it in your tank. There are a lot of discussions about it in the General forum if you search it.
Haven't heard anyone say it made their engine run hotter before though...

I normally fill up at the 1/4 gauge mark. I always dump in a quart of 2 stroke oil in the tank, no matter what the look of the hybrid owner next to me.

I run a half quart per fill. Even if I only put in a half tank. I know I heard a difference not long after trying it the first time.

I run ATF. Use about a quart every third tank. Been doing it for years and works great.

I tell all my friends to give me any type of oil sitting on their shelves that they don't use anymore and I pour a bottle of whatever it is in at every fill up. I've run just about everything except gear oil because I hate the smell of that stuff. Still smells like Thanksgiving when I start it from the 4 gallons of peanut oil that deep fried our turkey that I filtered and dropped in (I don't drive the truck that often).

That's really bad news for your injectors and injection pump. The old timers ran it way back when before it morphed into the modern chemical composition that it is today.

Modern ATF is packed full of friction modifiers and stuff that doesn't burn! You can save money and just toss a handful of sand and silica in your tank...you can achieve the same results
