water temp gauge going crazy
ok so I was driving along today, and looked at my guages to notice that the water temp gauge was going absoutley bezerk, flicking from one stopper to the other and fluttering in between, giving me no accurate reading at all. (these wernt slow movements).
I'm thinking coolant temperature sensor??? just would like an opinion from somone else, thanks, truck is in my signature, and this wasnt with any aftermarket gauges. (water temp gauge in the dash cluster).
thanks for your time.

loose wire at the sensor is my bet. mine does the same thing until i kinda jam the wires into the sensor. the clip that holds the ends together broke so it kinda comes loose with all of that crazy shake. try that first

yeah I had a look at the sensor and connector felt a bit loose, took it off, checked for corrosion, looked ok to me, and re-connected it. so I will see how it does tommorrow, one more thing, where would a good place to install a direct read temp gauge, (like autometer) because the factory sensor location is a bit of a pain.........

It is just the plug that the wire goes into. The terminal looses its connection and does this. You can put some dielectric in the plug, then use some electrical tape to help hold the plug tight on the sensor. If you can find a replacement plug, pull the wire out, put a new terminal on it, then reinstall it. This should fix your problem. No need to go putting another sensor in a different location. It is just a loose connection on the sensor plug.
