i have a fuel mileage question for ya'll folks.
this weekend i drove (in my truck) 650.1 miles, i used 32.681 gallons of fuel. or 19.892MPG
how do i figure fuel mileage for the taller tire, with uncorrected odometer.
i went from a stock 265 to a 285 (33")
what i have been doing is adding 3 miles for every 70 miles driven. the number i come up with is 20.745 MPG.
thanx..
Max
also, if anyone is interested in a SCAG 61" ZTR mower low hours let me know, $5500 FIRM. this lil guy http://www.foremansinc.com/power_equ...turf_tiger.htm

So on your trip, you actually went 672.85 miles for a mileage of 20.589mpg.

I sent an email to my brother in law/sister to let them know about your Scag Mower. My b-n-l is wanting to buy a ZTR mower. I think he was saving to buy a new one eventually, but he might consider yours. I'll let you know what they say.
Also, CONGRATS on the school in NM!! Sounds like Wind Energy might have a bright future. Good luck with it!
..
Assuming both tires have an aspect ratio of 70% (265/70/17 vs 285/70/17), then the 285 is 3.5% larger than the stock tire. To get your actual mileage, just multiply your mileage reading by 1.035.
So on your trip, you actually went 672.85 miles for a mileage of 20.589mpg.

mower only has 380 ish hours on it, she is still cherry.
Calculating based on tire size is still somewhat of an estimation because of tread depth and difference in manufacturing between tires. Plus you never really know exactly what your speedo is calibrated to exactly, so we're just assuming it was right with stock tires.
That's the fun thing with numbers, we could push that mileage over 22mpg if we just tweak the numbers enough.

sounds like i need a magellan 315 GPS, use its odometer. i bet its pretty accurate

Good luck, Max!
That's a good career move.
The number which is needed to most accurately calculate actual speed or mileage is ELR - Effective Loaded Radius of the tire... easiest way to measure it precisely is to check speed @ RPM with GPS or radar and resolve the equation for X (just think Catch-22
)
That's a good career move.

http://scag.com/productivity.html that says it will mow 23.7 acres in an 8 hour day, but that is at there recomended cutting speed of 6mph, if you speed that mph up it will still cut just fine but it will beat you to death.. but it will cut some grass thats for sure.

)it will make quite a swath. being 5feet wide and all.
