Happy B-Day Brian!!!
Dan that sucks to hear about your home.
Here's a link to see how cool you were in High School. Good luck with the test. http://www.sailinganarchy.com/genera.../cool_test.htm

ah you mean . " I SUPSECT THE EDGE " its also funny because i just got the box back from edge because they had to reflash it due to some errors. i am glad it did not die when i really needed it (like pulling out in front of someone) but it probably will one day.. . . .
smarty will have to wait til i finish school,$$$ if slim to none at this point.
Daniel, i was the coolest kid in school, and your test proved it.
I think Rob is right!!!

And I think God was trying to tell Max to get a Smarty
.....now!!!
..
For those that didn't know, I had Jim Jones, down at Texas Performance Diesel in Emory, install my new BD , Con 0 last Friday. They were quick....two techs with some help from Jim took three hours from on the rack to off the rack. Amazing what a difference lift and all the right tools make.
When I got home, I looked under the truck and there was oil underneath and all over the rear axle.
It was leaking from the rear transfer case seal. I called Jim and told him and he immediately said to bring it back and he would fix it....free of charge.
The old seal didn't look bad or brittle and probably got poked, moved or whatever when they stabbed the drive shaft. Anyway, it's fixed and Jim treated me right.
I cranked the Smarty up to SW5, and can now feel what the Jammer 3's feel like without the clutch slipping. Feels good enough to break the tires loose in 3rd and 4th without much effort.

I work with Jim (for the same city), talked to him about a month ago. Havent gotten to take mine out to him yet but look forward to it. He seems to know alot and told me one of his techs is a 1st gen guru. How many of you have had him do work. I have heard some good and bad about his shop. I dont doubt his work. No company can please everybody, just wanted to hear what yall think.
I've heard that too, but can only speak for my experience. I don't remember his name, but I know which tech you're talking about. I don't know how many clutches they have done, but they were very methodical with no hesitation on what they were doing.
I forgot to mention it in my previous post that Jim called me yesterday to make sure everything was still OK.

Being an Automatic guy, I never understood all the different clutches.
Business is slow so decided to educate myself. Went to South Bend's web page to learn.
Finally got the 'O', 'OFE' and 'FE' difference clear. But......
-Curious why they have different CON O's (as an example) for 6 speed SO engine vs 6 speed HO engine?
-I assume different clutches for 5 sp vs 6 sp is due only to different sized input shafts.......right?
-Charlie, Does BD have better SB clutch price than SB?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Sorry I did not get to feel all that power last Sat when you were still breaking it in! Seeing Charlie let 'Big Red' cut loose would be a treat.

Not sure about the prices. I haven't checked in awhile, but at one time, the price I paid was about the going price for the clutch, pressure plate and input shaft that I got. I could have probably shopped around and saved a little $$$, but I felt like I could trust Jim more than a total stranger.
ETH (HO) clutches uses a 12" pressure plate and disk and fly wheel. All are 6 Speeds here.
Non ETH (SO) Clutches uses a 11.5" or something like that...its less....Most are 5 speeds here.
What SB does is convert customers up to the larger plate and flywheel due to the OFE and FE clutches will hold so well that the center can rip out of the small disks. SO go to the larger units...more mechanical advantage....no issues. Hence why they supply a new fly wheel with the clutch. Don’t think you would have changed your input shaft unless you went to a Double Disk. That is normally the only instance where you would HAVE to change your input shaft.

one day. . . the big problem is having to buy the gauges and such, maybe be able to use the edge for gauges with the smarty ( a pacifier til gauges get bought) . just unplug the wires going to the injectors.
Smarty just plugs into the OBD II port correct? and reprograms the factory ECM ?

12V head and block should be picked up tomorrow afternoon and started on its long journey to Europe, by way of New Jersey port... Guy over on CompD bought the motor... All funds are clear and away it goes!
Noticed last week on Thursday that I had a big ol bulge sticking out in the middle of the tread in one of my tires!
must have broken a belt or something
probably 8 inches long by 4 inches wide sticking up a good half to 3/4"... Needed the truck to tow 4 quads to Red River for some camping last weekend so tires were needed in a hurry... Not really in the mood to shell out $1300 on a new set of tires I started shopping used on a short time span... Tried my usual tire shops, craigslist, couple dealers and pretty much came up short.. Was looking for a 285 size tire preferably AT tread... ended up with a set of 315/70/17 BFG ATs...
Have a good amount of tread left on them, one was a little chopped but nothing bad... Balanced out fine, out the door for $120 so not too bad of a deal...
BUT I now remember why I was sooooo happy to drop from my 35s!! Towing SUCKS!
Truck is never at the right RPM range for the speed I want to run... 6th is too tall 5th is too short... need something in between for 35s...
Truck ran and pulled fine though.. did most of the trip home today with the quads in tow in 6th running 15-20psi boost and 950-1000* bout 73mph... Nasty headwind for the trip today... so that's about 1925RPM.. really loading 6th gear too hard IMO especially on hills or when traffic slows to about 60 and I'm too lazy to drop a gear... 5th gear at the same cruising speed is like 2650RPM... Where is the middle ground!
So now that I have some tires to get me by I'm on the prowl for some 285s!

I can't wait to see Charlie melting the tires off of Big Red...
