Wiring my Cabover to my truck?
Wiring my Cabover to my truck?
I am wondering if my 01 2500 dual battery setup runs 12 volt or 24 volt? I need to wire my cabover camper into my truck and here was my plan:<br><br>1. Run an isolator between the batteries (they arent isolated already are they?)<br><br>2. Run a hot fused lead to the camper from the isolated battery<br><br>3. Ground camper to the frame.<br><br>Am I on the right track? My camper is old and is wired all throughout for 12 volt but does not have its own battery, etc yet.<br><br>
Re:Wiring my Cabover to my truck?
Cool, thank you. I have read something searching that there is a red power wire I can tap into just along the frame rail for positive feed...can anyone elaborate or describe to me what I am actually lookin for and where?
Re:Wiring my Cabover to my truck?
What's the isolator for? Just curious what you have in mind. I would run my hot wire for the camper directly (fused) off the battery post. I hesitate to pierce a factory battery lead like that, especially if it's a long wire. I might run a hot to the back of the truck, put a plug on it, then rig a pigtail on the camper that fit that plug. That way you have a water resistant connection and can take your camper on and off without having an electrical ISSHUE every time ;D
Re:Wiring my Cabover to my truck?
I think I am starting to agree with you. Sound advice for sure! Last night I discovered all my camper has is a positive and negative wire coming off the the back of it. I fi run a ground to the frame and a hot to the battery I will be set. The isolator was to dedicate one battery to the camper and if my wife leaves a light on or something it wont drain both batteries on the truck. I dont think thats going to happen so for now I am not going to worry about it 8)
Re:Wiring my Cabover to my truck?
Run a #8 wire Red from positive post of truck battery to positive of camper battery. Place a 40 amp circuit breaker in this line near truck battery. (Tekonsha has one which most RV parts stores carry) Run #10 ground wire Black from camper battery negative to truck frame or to negative post of truck battery. Campers trailers, motorhomes color code wiring differently. RV standard color coding white or green are ground, black is positive (hot).<br><br>This will allow your truck to charge the camper battery while the engine is running.
Re:Wiring my Cabover to my truck?
you can use a ford, yes i said that bad for letter word, starter selonoid( whiich is justa big relay) to isolate the camper battery. it will allow the battery to charge while the truck is running and be disconected from the system when the truck is off. the good thing about them is they are cheap compared to an isolator. you still need a fuse!
