my buddy just bought a 06 2500 shortbed and it came with a gooseneck in the bed...its just the ball that sticks out with 2 hooks on each side for chains i guess and the light plug.....he hates it and wants it out...so hes giving it to me ..will it fit in my 04 short bed?

If it's a pop-up (sounds like what you described is) you will more then likely have to take the bed off to remove and install it. Your best bet is to crawl under his truck and see if you can tell what make and model hitch it is and then go to that company's wesite and see if you can download the install instructions.
