you can't use fuel additives in the aux. tank, it will mess up the tank senser.

Could you explain this some more...a friend of mine has a tranferflow and uses additives all the time. I don't think his said not to use them.

TIA.

Re:Transferflow tank

While on vacation this week I made a side trip to Chico, Ca. and had a 70 gallon in-bed Transfer Flow tank installed. The folks at TFI are very friendly and professional. They go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. They offer refreshments as well as a VCR and movies in their lobby. We dropped the 5er in a field next to their facility while the work was being done. After relaxing for a few hours the truck was finished and we were on our way. I now have 104 gallons on board and it's great! After leaving Transfer Flow we drove 600 more miles and never did stop for fuel...I like that! Money well spent. Here's a couple pics.

Buzz, that looks very professional. I like it! When you fill it up, does it "CLICK" off or do you have to watch for it so it doesn't overflow?

Re:Transferflow tank

Buzz, that looks awesome!! 8) I'm thinking about putting the exact same tank in but have a few reservations before I order one. I was hoping you might be able to help. I'm afraid my 4wheeler won't fit in the bed behind it since I have a short bed too. Is there any way you might get a chance to take a tape measure and let me know how much room there is behind the tank to the end of the tailgate(open/flat)? Thats really the biggest holdup in me purchasing one. I wouldn't want to give up hauling my atv in the bed.

Secondly, is that true you can't use fuel additives in the tank??

Re:Transferflow tank

I'll measure it today and let you know. About the additives...I don't know. But why would it matter? I can't think of a reason. Buzz

Thats what made me think of it.

Thanks for offering to measure, that would really be sweet if it will all fit. I'd love to have that big of a fuel capacity.

Buzz does the truck ride smoother with some weight in the back? I know when I add the 700lb atv in the back, it's noteably smoother riding...

Re:Transferflow tank

Okay. There's 56 1/4" between the tank and the tailgate when closed. Depending how the tank's installed, there could be a 1/2'" more or so. My tank sits touching the fender wells. Hope this helps.

I haven't driven my truck with the aux. tank full without the 5er yet. However, it should be a tad bit smoother. I don't know what diesel fuel weighs but water is 8.333 pounds per gallon and I assume fuel is at least that much. So, 70 gallons shouls be at least 560-600 lbs?? I/ve got the camper package with an extra leaf so my truck ride pretty stiff to begin with. It sits pretty high in the back and just right with the 5er hitched up.

Re:Transferflow tank

Ive heard diesel weighs between 6.8 and 7.1... I guess call it 7 for a good estimate.

Re:Transferflow tank

Diesel clearly weighs a bit less than water, evidenced by it instantly sinking when you put water in fuel.

Thanks much buzz. I was wondering from the tank to the end of the tailgate with the gate folded down but I'm sure I can measure that extra distance and do the math I"m gonna go out to the garage and do that now. Looks like its' gonna be close!

Re:Transferflow tank

I've got the 74 gal. TF wedge tank, and when I fill all the way up, the fuel nozzle will click off when the tank is full. I always make sure that the nozzle is fully inserted in the filler tube. BTW, I use the high speed pump to fill the aux tank, but not the oem tank. And, I find that the truck does ride a bit smoother when the aux. tank is full.

Hope this helps.

Re:Transferflow tank

Sorry guys for taking so long to respond back. Yea I used an additive in my tank and my senser ( reader ) started having dead spots in it. Wouldn't read right. Between 80 and the 98 mark, wouldn't read anything. I called Trans-flow, and they told me if I use additives it would attach itself to the reader and block the signal. The reader or sending unit in the tank runs off of different voltage than in our factory tank. With the voltage they use and the reader it screws it up. Go figure. So now I only put additives in my factory tank. I hope this helps.

Re:Transferflow tank

Kimrey, do you think thats a function of you having the 98 gal tank with the trax ufs as compared to the express ufs of the 70 gal tank? Meaning, is it a problem with the electronics of your system only or is it stopping the tank from functioning? Sorry I'm a little hazy on how these things work.

Re:Transferflow tank

I don't think so. In the paper book that you get with the tank it says it should read +- 2 gal. Even while moving. Unless you are on a hill or something. When I first got it, it was great, worked like it was supposed to. They replaced the sending unit ( reader ) in the tank when it started acting funny. It still isn't right. For example; yesterday when I first cranked it up and let it warm up it was reading 90 gal. Going down the road it would read between 80 and 90 gal. I got to where I was going and shut it down. Then went back to crank it 2 hours later, and it was reading 79 gal. I went a total of ten miles. In my main tank it started out at 22 gal. When I stopped it read 21 gal. both times. The factory tank is reading correctly. the trans-flow isn't. The factory gauge on the insterment panel is supposed to read what you have total between the both tanks. Right? Well when you first crank the truck mine will read whats in the factory tank, then sometime later it will read whats in both tanks. Go figure. Thats the problems I've been having. I hope this helps, if not let me know and I wil try to explain further.
