Question Trailer Brakes

Just got my new 05 3500 CTD Quad Cab. I found my trailer brake connection under the dash and have my brake controller. How do I connect the 2? Is there another wiring harness I need to buy or just cut and splice wires. You're help is most appreciated.

If you look in the glovebox, center console, etc., you should find a brake controller pigtail if your truck indeed has the towing package. If it's not there, ask your dealer to cough one up!

When you wire your controller to the pigtail, be extremely careful to match your wires by function (which should be labeled on the wire insulation or on a paper tag attached to the wire), NOT by color.

If your truck did NOT come with the factory tow package(7pin connector), in addition to the pig tail you'll also have to buy the tow package wiring harness. The trucks(the 04.5 3rd gens) without the tow package will not be wired for trailer brakes. I had to deal with this, kind of a pain but the dealer can install all of this stuff for you easily.

My early 2002 did not have a pigtail, but the brakesmart kit musta had the right stuff as it works great. Just hook up the 7 ping to the cargo trailer.
