towing a wood chipper

looking for some answers....
i drive an 01 dually w/4:10s, six speed, etc. my question is this....the chipper weighs a decent amount 8K. its set up with a pintle hook. i have one of those pintle/ 1 5/16" ball. its all very HD. when i'm towing this thing the pintle is not a snug fit. there is about 3/4" to 1" of travel for the pintle to float around in the hook. this is going front to back only. i notice that slack when stopping and accelerating.

is this the norm or just a bad fit on my setup. have seen pintles set up....some with a little plan and some with not as much.

LOOKING FOR ADVICE.

Slack in a pintle setup is normal...they are made that way....most commercial big rigs that pull doubles have a pintle setup on the second trailer....but there is a device like a air brake chamber that apply a sliding clamp to the pintle to tighten the slack after air pressure is applied

Pintle hitches are made like this with slack for easy removal and hookup most military trailers are pintle hitches

The slack also allows articulation, tilting side to side. If it were a snug fit as on a ball mount it wouild bind with any tilt.
