I'm glad that I asked the questions I did . It's true it's not what I want to hear but safety is number one!! If I didn't I wouldn't have asked at all . So what I did is put on a set of 3795 lbs rated tires and a set of air bags for now . Then when I get back I will look into a different set up . Thanks again for all the input.

Towing a Voltage

I hear that the frame on a 2500 v 3500 for that vintage are the same. If this is true, and I would investigate it, you may want to add some air bags just to keep it in level tow so excessive squatting doesn't cause any crap to flow while driving.

I would encourage you to get an EGT gauge installed and make sure that you do not exceed max temps while towing. Excessive heat would be the death of the power plant. That sled is heavy but you should find that you have plenty of pull power.

Next, see if 6 wheel disc brakes come on it cuz stopping it is more important than pulling it. If not, see if they can be upgraded and you will never look back at the expense. I tow a DRV Mobile Suite at #16,000 (camping ready) and the 4 wheel disc brakes are outstanding and provide great comfort and control.

Good luck and enjoy camping.

P.S. my son-in-law has a very similar set up...

What type of kit did you use to make yours a dually.

no kit. truck was already a 1 ton. traded a guy for a rear end (03-12 are the same), traded for a bed. all I had to buy was a fuel filler neck and tires. buddy gave me his stock 17's off his truck since he went 19.5. gonna give them back to him after I get my 22.5's installed. Did all the work myself. into complete conversion for under $2000 (tires, fuel filler neck and pac brake air bags). still need to have bed painted but when I compared the cost to buy a new truck with same options, and what I owe on this one it was a no brainer.
