Starcraft Homestead 5th Wheels
Starcraft Homestead 5th Wheels
Does anyone have any experience with the Starcraft Homestead 5th wheels? Just curious on overall quality. They are pretty inexpensive, I found a barely used 11 for pretty cheap. I just don't want to go with a cheap/poorly constructed 5th that will be more headache than use.
I really like the Grand Design's, but they seem very popular and I haven't found a used one and the new ones fly off the lot and they aren't cheap. I just don't know if they are worth it for my uses. If I was retired, I could definitely see buying one, but living in MT the roads to my favorite fishing areas are hell on equipment. So I don't really want to spend $50k just to see it get beat to hell.
Suggestions? Since this is my first 5th wheel (had other campers), I would like to stay under $30k. I screwed up and didn't buy 13 Arctic Fox that was basically brand new for cheap this winter. ~TIA

We have a 5th wheel, I will tell you know matter what you buy, you will have to fix something, they all seem to have there problems, we see lots of Montana`s friends have them, the quality isnt to bad on them, but they are not cheap either, we had a springdale for a few years, towed it a lot of mile, they are an entrance level trailer, we had less trouble with it than our $50k colorado, the RV sales up here will only handle Keystone no as they have less trouble with them. keep looking cheers
I'm a newbie 5th wheel owner, so my opinion is not based on extensive experience, but is based on extensive research. Bought an '06 Arctic Fox last year after narrowing it down to Arctic Fox or Titanium (which is no longer in business). My feeling is that if it looks cheap inside, it probably is cheaply built throughout. I was impressed by all the reviews on Arctic Fox and my own observations supported that feeling. I don't know anything about the unit you're looking at, but if you almost bought an Arctic Fox, you could find another pretty easily and wouldn't be making a bad choice.
I would pull some kitchen drawers out and look inside.
Really cheap ones are pressboard and staples. Mid range and you see particle board. Nicer ones will be plywood.
Things people miss when shopping: headroom in the shower, and how the seating areas are in relationship to the entertainment area.
I also like to see easy access to the pump and plumbing.
