Snagged By Colorado DOT
Boy, I am glad I live in Missouri where they just don't care much! We don't have anything to do with a trailer weight registration here. Just a registration, but it state's no weight's. I drive the rig in my gallery many times loaded with heavier stuff than those van's and we have a 18k plate on our trucks, no cdl, no dot#, no logbook, don't stop at scale's, have driven in about 7 or 8 state's in the midwest and never been so much as sneezed at. And we have been running that trailer for about 5 years or so. I am glad I don't have all the problems you guys do!
Sorry you had the CDOT experience! Another reminder why I moved back to Wyo!! The funny thing is, you coulda got nailed in Wyo for the speed, cuz the limit on 287 north of CO is 65 too!! And I am a little curious where that greasy spoon is, as the first place of business I know of is about 30 miles south of the border..... you can tell when you're in Colorado because of all the California plates
Naw, Big Jimmy, it was Littleton. You could tell they were from CA by the way they drove when 1 inch of snow fell on the roads. Try running to Colorado Springs with those yahoos sometime right after a little accumulation

Where ever they are from they drive like certified idiots in the snow. Its either too fast for the conditions or way too slow. I actually followed a gal after a 1/2 inch dusting driving 10mph slowing to less than the speedometer would record around corners (this was in town) Drives me nuts.
Its the only reason I re-consider driving in "weather".
Its not the conditions but the people driving.
Makes me Actually regret learning to drive in the ice and snow of Northern Maine. Ruined me for most places.
Big Jimmy
I don't want to be a party pooper, but that ticket is a serious one. Better look into it very well. Max fine is $5000 to the driver and $5000 to the carrier. Worse I think they raised it a while ago.
Better also check the laws, most likely if the trailer is over 10,000 pounds you still need a class A.
I'm tellin you that even if many get away with it for years, they mean business on the CDL stuff.

In Maryland, the DOT use helicopters, army tanks, and SEAL team tactics to inspect and subdue unsuspecting drivers. They fast rope down from overhead road signs with machine guns, pop out of culverts with ninja suits on, and if God forbid you're pulling a two axle landscape trailer with a trimmer rack on it, you are pulled out of the truck and beaten while a spectre gunship flies security around the perimeter. They wear the little secret service ear pieces, and have a heavy german accent when they say "Let me see your papers".
