Well folks - I'll be 68 this weekend and have changed a rotated more than my share of tires. Here's my opinion. When I was young and used to do my own grunt work, I used to rotate my tires. I firmly feel that rotating them will give them added life and will save you money. BUT - now that I am older and lazier - I have others do my grunt work and feel that the money I save by extending the tire life a few thousand miles will be spent many time over is labor charges, just my humble opinion. I will have to agree.

I quit balancing tires on my vehicles several years ago; no complaints yet.

If a tire is good enough to run, it will run without balancing.

Another thing is, most tire-shops do not pay enough to attract intelligent help, and end up getting kids and dumbies to install and balance tires.

They sometimes get it right and oft times get it wrong.

I would rather have no balance, as to have a bad balance job.

 

At the local shop, a rotate and balance for a four wheeled vehicle costs $25.

A brand-name 235-85-16 tire costs $125, installed, taxes included.

Rotate the tires five times and you have paid for another tire; this is with four wheels, not six.

If the tires are running smooth, LEAVE THEM ALONE.

Many times, I see someone with smooth-running tires get them rotated; they are never satisfied with them again, until they are wore-out and replaced.

If you have a problem tire, and don't feel the problem, leave it where it is; because, if you move the problem tire to a new location, you will definitely feel it.

Also, most of the dip-stick tire-jockeys are abusive with their Ingersol-Rand, and will cross-thread and strip several lug-nuts, everytime they remove and install a set of wheels.

I can count the times an impact-wrench has been on my vehicles on my two hands; sometimes, they are a necessary evil; but, most times, they do more harm than good.

I never rotate tires and never will.

 

Okay, for you guys that do your own dually tire rotation, do you put the truck on jack stands while doing it? What is your procedure? You guys with hoists don't count

 

Since the tires all stay on one side during rotation, I used to just jack up one side and rotate then repeat on the other side...

Actually, I rotate the duallys side to side about every 15,000 miles when I check and readjust the rear brakes.
I just jack the rear up under the pumpkin with my 3 /2 ton floor jack the place jackstands under the axle.

 

I just go to Discount Tire where I have been buying my tires for many years and let them do it for free
