Pulling Auto Shifting Question

Pulling my 7000# 5th wheel around for 500 miles over last weekend and had an odd shifting issue. Most of the time, the truck would shift into overdrive at 49mph - just like when not towing. But on some occasions, it would not shift into OD until I actually backed off the throttle enough to slow down. I would usually back way off at about 60mph to get it to shift into OD. This happens at times even on flat ground with no wind. Anybody else seen this? It happened about a half dozen times over the weekend. I have no confidence in my dealer to help and I would not be sure I could duplicate it for him since it only happens some times.

Re:Pulling Auto Shifting Question

I have had that happen also,I'm not worried about it to much I guess if it happened all the time it would be something to worry about. JMO You gotta think there is alot of computer controlled stuff there. Had a 2000 chevy Z71 did some real weird shifting too. That's what we get for getting the slushbox instead of a Handshaker. But I have got no choice in the matter in a wheelchair and have to use a slushbox. It still pulls good right? Just think about them poor people with the Ford's with all there stuff going wrong with there trucks. Hope they get there stuff lined out for there sake that is pretty bad to have a $40,000 truck stay in the shop and when they get it out still not much changed in there truck.

Re:Pulling Auto Shifting Question

You are right about it pulling good. No comparison from my 99 cummins - amazing difference. Mileage seems to be a little poorer but hopefully will get better. Got about 11.5mpg. Swapping for a 30 footer with slide, so that will go down from there. I just would like to make sure there is no problem with the shifting.
