pulling 2 gooseneck

My new cattle trailer is done and ready for pick up in Bryan TX, I am pulling out of KY Firday morning and will be hooking up to my Gooseneck Brand cattle trailer Saturday morning. I am also bring back a 20' Gooseneck brand Cattle with me. It is attached to my 24'to my trailer will be hooked to my truck.

Any of you guys pulled doubles before? The dealer does this all the time but I have never pulled double trailers.

Are you speaking to us? An F-what?
With all those trucks I would bring another driver and truck along. Seriously I would hire a side-kick to move one with their own rig. That kind of thing scares me, but I was young once too. But now I know better. Nat
Are we talking Gooseneck brand or actual gooseneck hitches here?

CH, try a "doubles" search in this section. Lots of previous discussion on laws, CDLs, weigh stations, etc....

I sell new trailers, bring mine home from Missouri...I was told to have my dealer license with me if I was going to pull double. that is with a bumper hitch, I'm not sure about goose-neck rules.

From what people say Kentucky is kinda rough on stuff like this, but is hard to get an answer as to what is right and wrong, until you do something wrong!!

How ya been doin' cattle....Haven't seen you on here in a long time..

Lightbulb I got an idea,,,,,,,,,

Hey Ricki,
Ya ought to see what that 6.0 can really do,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, fill them trailers with a few of them "Long-Horned-MooMoos" and swing on by down to Claremont, we will supply the grills!

I think I would make sure that none of those states in between TX and KY can mess with ya,,,,,,,,,,, having to pay a fine would be bad enough,,,,,,,,,,, having to leave one of those trailers parked till you could come back and get it might be a pain. I've read a bunch of posts from different sites and it seems you can never find a clear-cut answer for questions on towing doubles. Be careful and good luck!

I've seen Gooseneck hauling their trailers. They pull them double by bolting a plate to the back of the first one and hooking the second to it. It's been 4 or 5 years since i've seen their setup, I can't remember precisely how they did it. If Gooseneck knows you're going to pull double, they can probably set you up and maybe know the laws for doubles. I'd give them a call and see what they say. Lucky you're going in the summer, you can miss all those aggies in Bryan/College Station.

Do yourself a favor and call the DOT of the States you will be traveling through. They can give you the "correct" information and save you from having any problems during your trip.

Your biggest problem is going to be overlength, hauling two full size trailers.

Do like the big boys do- run on back roads at night!

Most states will not allow a double setup with 2 ball hitches

A gooseneck is a ball type hitch.....if the front one was a 5 th wheel the second could be a ball hitch....plus you'll need to wire brakes and lites to the rear unit and most brake controllers will not handle that many axles asumming theres 2 axles per unit

I am not the smartest on these things, but I think you are asking for trouble by pulling two. I do know that Texas will most likely not mess with you unless you are involved in a wreck. However I do believe that brakes are required on both trailers. Also I think that you will be restricted to interstate HY and/ or US HY no state roads Just remember they don’t call them wiggle wagons for nothing.

We used to haul two trailers home all the time but it depends on each state. The first trailer must be a goose neck with a 5th wheel as we would just insert our own kingpin insert and take the ball (farmer rigging ) out. The second trailer was a ball coupler (2-5/16 on 1" plate) bolted through the floor of the first trailer. Length will be you second problem as again each state has a different set of rules. The brakes will work fine if the controller unit is not over loaded and just build a Y cable that you can string back to the second trailer. Most of the newer trucks have a second circuit to handle more trailer lights and prevent the headlight switch from burning up. Just a note an RV 5th wheel hitch is not allowed it must be a commercial hitch, that is why I only run Binkly 32,000lb or Holland #6200 hitches to pull anything. Actual pulling of 2 trailers is not a problem just like a big rig ( B trains) but remember you have two pivot points going around corners. If you have to back them up you will have to re-educate yourself but once you get the hang of it no problem. PK

With doubles the front must be a 5th wheel coupler.
Length in the states I travelled with a one ton was 65 ft except for AZ...53ft for some reason.
Doubles are easy to pull. just make sure you have as mentioned...
all brakes working, and a brake controller that can do four axles.

I got shook down in AZ on I-15...a 30 or so mile stretch going to NV. One of the officers at the scale was all wrong on the regs and had the fines written up for me to pass thru their state...over $450.00 cash please.

I said I will not pay or pass thru their fine state ever again and went back up I-15 and cut over to 95 and back down...still cheaper then that fine stuff.

Get it in writing on what is told to you. I did not and thats how they tried to bend me over at the scales. They also said that running the scales could net me another fine.
Like I was going to try that after they saw my load. LOL

A ford? hmmm

made it back home Sunday with my trailer around 2:30 pm, did not have any troubles at all. Round trip was 2078.4 miles burned 202 gals of fuel not to happy with the avg of 10 mpg but did run hard the whole time. Speed limits were 70 mph the whole way once I left KY, even the 500 miles on the TX back rounds were 70 MPH. Got loaded up in Bryan TX at 9:30am Saturday morning with both trailers. Total lenght of truck and both trailers were at 77' 8". Total trailers weight was only 12,600#
