Prodigy P3 took a crap
Anyone here have their P3 quit? Had it 2.5 yrs and only used it about a dozen times. Screen dark with a lit border and nothing will come up on it no matter what buttons I push.

I have had mine for about 5 years and it has had lots of use. I have always heard lots of good about it, too. The only thing that I have heard of that will cause probable failure is pulling the trailer breakaway switch while the "umbilical cord" is plugged into the truck. I know not much help, but thought I'd pass that on. pcm

Not sure about the P3s, but the Prodigy has a lifetime warranty. Read up on its paperwork, or have a look on the website.

I know this sounds simple, but did you try unplugging it and letting it sit for a few minutes and then plugging it back in. It is my understanding that the P3 constantly draws from the battery. Could be worth a try.

Thanks guys, I will try unplugging and restarting. I have one in my company truck and it works flawlessly. Will let you know. Thanks again. Paul

Mine locked up last month. A reboot fixed her right up.
Things have have gotten way too complicated![duhhh] |
Can't get the stinkin' plug off the back of the unit. [verymad]

So unplug it at the other end where it goes into the truck harness......

I had the same thing happen. I bought a new one and went to go change it and was stopped half way thru the project so I replugged the old one and its worked fine ever since. I had no luck getting thru to tekonsha via email about help with troubleshooting and nothing online said to unplug the unit and replugg it for a frozen screen. I have been very pleased with it otherwise.

My P3 never dumped or quit, it was experiencing no proportional braking. The controller would go to full power when you hit the brakes. I called the factory with the warranty, they never wanted to admit it was a known problem etc, so had to pay shipping back, they gave me a another one, some other threads not on this site say a bad early batch were prone to lots of issues.
I've since put my Prodigy back and had no problems. I like my Prodigy better anyways, prefer the dial to adjust braking, not the screen, its a pia to adjust via the buttons while on the road trying to find that sweet spot. |
