Towing Double in Alaska.

This was our first 5er. We have since bought a newer 28' with slides. Unfortunately it outweighs the old one by almost double. So I have been apprehensive about pulling the sleds, but I am sure that will wear off after towing it some more this summer.

At first look I thought those were jet skis and was going to say you were crazy with that snow on the ground.

People think I am crazy pulling doubles up here anyway. Might as well be jet skis. They have a hard time believing that in the rest of the world "lower 48", this is perfectly normal. My Dad has double towed a 20' stock trailer full of mules and a 20' car trailer with his wagon for thousands of miles. Compared to that this is a piece of cake, except for dodging the moose!

Nice rigs everyone! If i can figure out how to posts photo's I'll put mine up.I do have a comment on two members trucks and that is caper with his 98 and the two atv's loaded on the back. WOW! That is scary!!! I haven't ever driven anything like that but I don't believe i would even consider it. The other post was by ramcneal. That is a nice set up but the problem i see is to much camper for the tow vehicle. I see this quite often out on the highways every day. My personal opinion is a fiver over 25 ft. should be pulled with nothing less than a 5500/6500 type vehicle. I say this due to the fact i drove big rigs for 20 years. I again would not feel comfortable pulling something that big with that small of a truck. NO STOPPING POWER!! I'm not criticizing any one you all can do what you want. I just would not feel safe in those rigs and other one's i see on the road.

Clearly you've never hauled anything of any weight with a pickup. Those quads in the back on the deck are lighter than a slide in camper and a 25ft 5th wheel only weighs 5-6K. Easily handled by a 3/4ton.

Gotta love armchair critics.....

Not talking about weight. It looks like the center of gravity law might be broken. And yes i have towed heavy with a pick up. I pull a 25ft. travel trailer 6 - 7k. It just doesn't look safe.

Since you called out my post I'll respond. (If this is a duplicate sorry, I posted a reply once and had network issues with my WiFi)

You may have driven big rigs for 20 years, but you've not driven my truck. There is plenty of stopping capacity available in this setup which I even had the chance to prove to myself during our inaugural trip this spring. The first and worse was on a downhill run while approaching a semi which was running in a lower gear to control his speed (guessing that he didn't have a jake brake). Two cars were in front of me and we moved from the right lane to the left so that we could pass the truck. The first car apparently didn't see that the semi had his flashers on to warn people about his slow speed and thought something was wrong. They slammed on their brakes at last minute and ended up going the same speed as the semi in the left lane. I had to jump on the brakes. The truck shed the speed and did so without coming unglued.

I have also driven my truck and while stopping reached down and engaged the trailer brakes so that they are providing more braking power. I have my brakes setup so the trailer provides a neutral feel. So, I know the trailer can provide more if needed. Next, I added the OEM exhaust brake to my truck. With the manual transmission and the exhaust brake engage my truck will maintain 62-64MPH on a 6% downhill run (Flagstaff to Phoenix on I-17 and Raton Pass on I-25).

I don't mind your questions and have replied simply to give you information about why I believe my rig has no problems with the weight. I should also add that I weighed my truck empty before buying the trailer, weighed it again right after picking it up from the dealer, and a final time after my wife and I loaded our gear. As pictured my rig weighs in just under 18K.

Sinse ya called out my post also , I'll bite the bikes and deck come in at 1450 lbs. , nothing compared to what some have on the top of their truck , I have a camper on my 3500 that is 2300 lbs dry . Some have the same camper on 2500's . As for being top heavy , I say "NO" all my trucks have the camper package also . It is like having a 1450 lbs. camper on which is nothing . Yes they let me know their on there and I drive accordingly as I do with my camper or anything else I tow/haul. I see people with 1/2 tons up here with the same setup , yes they are stupid , I don't see anythig wrong with my set ups.
