Need your opinion on a trailer

I looking at a 2005 8.5'x24' Cargo Mate enclosed trailer to haul my car. The trailer has 10k gvw and all steel frame, aluminum rims, loading lights, rear stabilizer jacks and comes with a sway control and load distributing hitch. I'm concerned about the tongue. It's 2"x6" steel tube but it is not a triple tube, only 2 tubes. I'm guessing with my car the trailer is going to weight about 7500 lbs. Is the tongue going to hold up well? Also he wants $5k for the trailer does that sound reasonable? Anyone have experience with Cargo Mate?

Id say the tongue will be ok. I think thats a decent price. I saw a local trailer 8.5x 24 sell for 5200 and it only had a rating of 7k on it another 24 footer i saw with a 10k rating was asking 6500 didnt see what it ended up selling for. If the trailer is in decent shape then I would try to pick it up.

Remember, only about 10% of the weight distributes to the receiver draw, so by your estimate that would be 750#. Tandem axles ? Single tires on each ? Would they be 5200's to get to the 10,000 GVW ? Is there room in the 24' to load your car(s) a bit further aft, placing more weight on the trailer axles if needed ? You estimate the trailer curb weight around 4K, and the car around 3500 ? Some of the curb weights on these trailers can vary a great deal - price is probably not bad - I've found EBAY a good resource for pricing trailers, taking into account having to go get one into the value equation. Good luck

The axles are 5200 lb(each) torsion. The trailer is a 2005. I estimate the trailer at 3600lbs and my car at 3900lbs (big block GTX). I think I may go for it. Thanks for your input.

$5K... Sounds like a good deal... and I did some serious looking before I bought my 24' enclosed. and you're on the right track as the 6-lug axles are a must!
