Inflating PacBrake air bags

I've just installed a set of Pacbrake air bags on my truck. I was wondering why you have to keep 10lbs of pressure in them. Secondly has anyone tried just 5lbs for a better unloaded ride?

thanks Jamie

You want a positive pressure at level & empty to prevent the bags from collapsing when the suspension extends.
I run about 10 psi because my daily air temp swings run up to 40° and I don't trust my pressure gauge.

A Pacbrake person has posted you can run 5 psi, but I would email them to confirm. They build them, DTR does not.

If you don't have enough pressure they'll collapse sideways and rub against the frame/bracket/whatever. I usually just let out the pressure until the bag is somewhat firm, not deflated or rock-hard.

A Pacbrake installer/tech is the one who said you can run 5 psi in them. I run 6.5 psi empty & have never had a problem. The ride was way too harsh w/10 psi empty, IMO.

You will be fine with 5 to 8# of air in them.
