I have done pretty much only mods to make my truck a better hauler. It pulls fine, gets great mileage with the trailer behind me, and does not smoke at all even when I'm giving it a bunch of pedal to get me up a hill when towing.(And that's with the Van Aaken box on the 65hp setting)
I'd say she's properly tuned for towing, eh?!?!?!

It definitely could use a better converter but that will have to wait unless I break this one.....

You and I are in the same situation. We have both gone as far with the mods as we feel we can without doing something about the TQ Converter. I don't like the high-stall converter that comes stock in these trucks. Seems like you have to give it a lot of pedal to get everything moving. And of course I don't like the way the converter unlocks under 45 mph and you're basically free-wheeling to a stop.

I have a bid from a local shop to install a BD Converter and valve-body, but that will cost $3K. Guess I will live with it the way it is for now.

If you use the tow/haul option on the gear selector button, you will find that it will not freewheel, and evenuses compression to help slow down in 3rd gear. I use it all the time, even when I'm running around empty.

And as soon as you change the converter you will be smoking and have to start tuning again. (but it feels good now, huh?)

My left leg tends to differ with you......
I loved towing with my manual trans. It's just the in-town driving that killed it for me....

Getting back on track here.... I am thinking about throwing my stock rims/tires on to see if she will pull a little better for me. It does great once I get moving but it seems to take a lot of pedal to get it moving from a stop. I know the stupid converter sucks but until I can upgrade I'm gonna have to do whatever it takes to deal with that. The fact that I have 3:73s isn't helping any either. I wish I had 4:10s........
