Dan,
correct, it is enforcement. However, in NY you cannot get a ticket for being over the rated weight of the truck. Its not in the law. And I haven't seen an RV yet that will weigh 22,400 on an axle. or 36000 on tandems. Therefore the only ticket one is likely to receive in NY would be for over the registered weight of the vehicle.

Just a thought...maybe find a f'ver that is a lttle smaller? 30-ft range and under 10,000-pounds loaded. Then you can keep your truck and still have a decent size rv.

The New York State Troopers are pretty dilligent about checking for overweight trucks. A friend of mine thought he would register his F350 at 17,900 and have no problems. A Trooper pulled him over and called the scale truck, weighed him, then gave him a ticket for every pound over the ratings listed on each tire. He hasen't been to court yet, but thinks he'll be fined $1/pound.

i spoke with our enforcemnet unit and this is what they told me they dont usually target small comercial vehicle towing RV's unless there in some type of accident and someone gets injured. also they told me they dont much bother with gvw or cgvw but they have scales they put under the wheels and weigh axle weight and will fine based on being over for axle weight according to the manufacturers sticker on the door. So you may be under on total weight but if all the weight is on one axle they issue the summons. And it is all based on how the vehicle is registered.
