gooseneck trailer question...

I've been shopping around for a flatbed gooseneck trailer...roughly a 30 footer including the dovetail.
The question I have is what are the pros and cons of 7k lb. axles vs. 2 10k lb. axles?

What is your preference and why? thanks, chris

higher payload capacity.

2-7k...14k cap. trailer weight of 5k leaves 9k for whatever you wanna haul
3-7k...21k cap. trailer weight of 6k leaves 16k for load
2-10k...20k cap. trailer weight 6k leaves 14k for load

i would go with 10k or 12k axles over a 7k anyday. with a 7k youll get a single wheel where as with a 10kand up youll have a dual. granted more tires to buy, but also more tires on the ground. if you have a blow out limping it to a more convientent location is easier on it than with a single. 3-7k thats an extra axle to maintain.

i also think the dual axles have more stability due to being wider. hope this answered any part of your question.

approx trailer weights are more than likely lighter than in reality. the numbers were for illustration only

that's actually the direction I'm leaning, 2 10k's.
Any advantages to 3 single axles? besides price obviously, but I'm planning to own it for a long time, so I'm not going the cheap route.

another thing, and this is just my opinion...id say the 10k are alot more under-rated on cap. compared to the 7k.

adv.
6 tires compared to 8.
might be a little cheaper

dis.

6 tires compared to 8
extra axle for maintence...brakes and bearings
personally dont like the looks of them either
less for resale

3 axle trailer scuffs tires bad in town driving. 10k and 12k have bigger, better brake, Had both triple and duels never regret moveing up to duels.
