Stumbled across this site before I bought the Jacobs. http://www.o-f-i.com/index.php?pid=11. Only $300 for a pump, and $120 for a pump pod. The pod sounds like rebuild kit of some sort?

it'd be a shame not to do both while I've got it apart.

You should do both valve springs; I wished I did. I installed my cummins/jacob exhaust brake 4 days ago with the 60lb exhaust springs that came with the kit. It would have taken me another 45 mins to install the intake valve springs since you already remove the rocker arms, head bolt, etc but I didn't think about it at the time.

thanks... that's what I'm planning on doing.

have anyone gotten any more feedback about too much tension on valve seats from 60lb springs. logic says if that was a problem 24valve cummins would be having valve issues.

$950 is outrageous for a vacuum pump. does anyone have an aftermarket pump yet? about the only thing you can do is purchase pump from someone like oriellys that will give a lifetime warranty
Nothing else on my truck runs off the vacuum pump. My truck did not even have a vacuum pump untill the dealer put the Jacobs on the truck. Most of your major parts stores do not list a vacuum pump, or a belt for a truck that has a vacuum pump, for that matter.

wow... didn't realize 2007 cummins uses zero vacuum accessories.

how does the air conditioning duct routing work?
what operates the 4x4 engagement (on 4x4 of course)

Electric motors/actuators in A/C. 4X4 is either manual lever (on my truck) or electric motor on others. No vacuum on my 2005 either. This may be same for all 3 Gens...

I had the Pac Brake installed by the dealer when I bought my '02 new. Within 50,000 miles it was sticking shut and had to pull over and beat on it with a hammer handle to get it open. Fooled with it off and on for several years and finally was told (by Pac Rep ??) on this forum to put vacuum filter, etc., etc. and did all that. Better, but took 10,000 miles to really work properly again. Truck now has 150,000 miles and I've given up on the Pac Brake.

When working (??) it does do a very good job and saves the brakes very well. Very frustrating to hafta find a pull out to bang on the thing to open it. With it closed you will Not keep driving........I promise you.

Less than a year later - this spring - it jammed up again. Had it apart, cleaned it, changed filter, banged head against wall........am now 3,000 miles into a 10,000 mile trip and haven't used it once. It's also an exhaust restriction even when open.

I did find, too, that it doesn't always open all the way and EGT spikes can drive you crazy.........out of the truck and bang on it some more. I will NOT buy another one, but am going to do some research on others. Like to find one that isn't smaller diameter than exhaust.

Lar.

Whatever I'm just telling what I've seen posted more than once re: the Jake vacuum pumps.

There's more than a couple of threads where the pumps locked up prematurely.

Doesn't matter to me I don't have one.

Now just how would you use that vacuum pump to fill your air bags?

Just another point to bring up. If you think you ever might want to upgrade the turbo you may want to opt for an inline brake. I did that, and if I choose to upgrade the turbo I can keep my $1k brake, all I have to replace is the downpipe and two $15 flange fittings to attach the brake. Turbo brakes are nice to install but they are turbo specific (or at least turbo flange diameter specific).
As far as getting a proportional brake vs standard, I have to say that my proportional BD with the simplest possible pressure valve - offset butterfly - works excellent at 1,600 rpm. I opted for BD instead of Pac just because of the inherent design simplicity, fewer parts = fewer parts to break.

Call any Cummins parts counter and give them the part #.
They will even ship the thing to your door for a few $'s.

I realize that DC needs to make a buck or two, but there's a difference between a reasonable mark up and getting bent over. That said, just about anything Cummins can be purchased from Cummins or any other heavy truck parts counter. I use Franklin truck parts or Cummins.
BTW, a Cummins water pump is about $100.00 from Franklin.
Sorry DC
