Eagle Cap camper opinions

Anyone here have (or had) an Eagle Cap slide-in truck camper that you'd care to offer an opinion? Specific likes and dislikes?

The wife and I will be trading in our Nash TT for a camper hopefully someday soon so we can tow some toys behind the truck (boat, ATVs, etc.). Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I've got a 2003 Eagle Cap 950 with slide out that we really like and have had good luck with.

The original builders, Intermountain RV, went bankrupt in late 2005. Okanagan is now the owners/builders of the Eagle Cap line. They are a top of the line Canadian builder of truck campers, and have almost totally revamped/improved the Eagle Cap line.

Stay away from any 2005 model EC as they had very poor quality control just before going belly up and owners have many problems with them.

Check out this website for more info;

Good Luck!

MY brother has an Eagle Cap with a slide. I believe it's about 4 yrs. old and the roof leaks like a sieve. All alum. frame as I remember so that wasn't a problem but mildew, mold, and stains on the interior wood!!
New owners refuse to talk about the "Lifetime Warrenty" on the roof and he is on his own with this problem.

The 2 year old Lance truck camper we traded on the Eagle Cap had roof leaks. The Lance however had a wooden frame that rots out from getting wet.

Roof leaks are common to all truck campers. There is maintenance required on these campers, as on any other piece of equipment, like re-caulking seams and windows annually or semi-annually.
I learned my lesson on maintenance and have done this on my 4 year old Eagle Cap, and it is still dry as a bone.

The "lifetime warranty" is thru the roofing material manufacturer, NOT the camper builder. In any case, the roofing material itself is probably fine, it was the seams tieing it down or vents penetrating the roof that leaked, which is NOT warrantied by the roofing material company. No camper manufacturer will warranty against leaks- especially when no maintenance has been done year after year.

In any case, the biggest thing to look out for in hauling a truck camper with a single rear wheel truck is being overweight on the tire weight ratings on the rear axle.

In my case the Eagle Cap 950 with slide out put me over the weight ratings on the factory 16 in. load range E tires. (loaded full up, ready to go camping) I had to get 19.5 load range H wheels/tires to be safe.
The EC 950 should ride on a dually truck.

Hope this helps...

I've checked them out at RV shows and they seem pretty nice...

I'd suggest you also check out Bigfoot, particularly the 10.6 with the drybath. They are built like two boat hulls, clamshelled together. They aren't cheap or light, but the interior workmanship has a nice quality look, and I suspect they have less potential for leaks. I haven't owned one, but everyone I've talked to who has one has been happy.
