On my first Hitchikker I lost a Goodyear tire and it tore up my fifth wheel to the tune of $600. Goodyear came thru and paid for the repair and replaced all of the tires. They certainly suprised me with that.
Now you had better keep an eye on those Wrangler's on your truck.

Bob,

We have the Goodyear G614RST tires in LT235/85R-16G size as original equipment on our Mobile Suites 5th wheel (see signature). I've towed with them at 70 MPH (and maybe a little more) on I-35 in Texas at ambient temperatures of 105 degF - no problem so far.

And, no, I'm not a big Goodyear fan. I replaced the fabric-and-steel LT235/85R-16E Goodyear Wrangler HT tires that were original equipment on our previous 5ver with Michelin XPS Ribs just for peace of mind and was extremely satisfied with the Michelins. My paranoia on this is due to a tire failure on the 5th wheel before our previous one - a 15" Goodyear Marathon that did $2500 in damage to the 5th wheel.

Anyway, as I said, the all-steel G614RSTs look great so far. Time will tell, I guess.

Rusty

What I'v found is that these trailers and 5ers are undertired when new . Look at the tires load rating then wiegh your unit. I know they like to blame the failure on tire age , I dont buy that ,the tires arnt heavy enough, then we get into our air conditioned Cummins and go like h--- and those trailer tires just cant take it . Look at the size of the trailer tires and there load rating, then look at your tow vehicle tires . tow truck has bigger tires, rated to carry LESS wt . and there not blowing out.Put some good truck tires that are rated to carry your trailer wt. on that trailer , and you'll find your putting much much BIGGER tires on then came on it ,and you wont have to worry so much.

Looked at my RV tires today to check the DOT date.

They read; DOT 6WVX, no numbers what so ever.

Did a web search trying to decipher what the letters meant, no luck.

Anybody have any ideas?

HHMMM, that is strange. Mine had two sets of four alpha characters, then the date stamp. Old tires were 129, 12th week of 99. New ones are 4904, 49th week of 04. I felt them to see if they were still warm.

Were they all the same?

At least you know they are fresh. I am sure glad that I was able to get the optional axle rating on this rig. Lots of safety margin now.

The plant code would be the first two places 6W, which would be China. Could be the problem!

They’re Duro's and from what I have read on the RV forums they’re suppose to be a good tire.
The RV is only a year old but who knows how old the tires are.

Any suggestions?

You may have something there! Just count the grains and that will tell you the year they were made.
