I got pulled over w/ my 5500 Ram which was pulling a 10K trailer. I was hauling personal stuff - was not doing business. THe department of Revenue guy who pulled me over said that since I was over 26K combined, it is commercial & that I need to get a IFTA sticker.

Is that true? Do I need a IFTA for non commercial use?

 

I'm an advocate for not asking such legality questions on these forums for a couple reasons..... One is forum members are located all over the states which potentially may or may not have the same laws as where you live, and too many members will tell you something incorrect.

Rather I suggest you talk to your state/local DMV and highway patrol for these answers. Dont stop at the first person who talks to you either as its too common for those people "of knowledge" to not fully understand their own laws and give bogus advice. Talk to multiple people and get it in writing.

 

I also think that the state/local DMV would answer your question in the best possible way. I don't know much about the IFTA sticker.
