Below is the specs of the toy hauler 5th wheel we're considering. Loaded with 2 ATVS, 100+Gallons of water, gas, etc, etc, How would the truck in my signature pull this beast? This thing is huge. If you think it's too much, what could I do to help that?

How about a Frieghtliner.......................!

A friend of mine pulled one about this size with a stock 3500 and didn't have a lot of problems. The biggest problem he had was pulling tires off the rims when he made tight turns. He said he would never have another triple axel.

That is way too much for your 2500. Not even close. Even a dually would be overloaded at the trailer's max weight. And there is nothing that you can do to your truck to make it safe or legal. FWIW

That is a pretty good load, even for a 3500. I have overloaded my 2500 w/ helpers on occasions and it did fine, but that would be a little too much for your 2500. I dont think I would want to haul that w/o 4 wheels in the back. Looking to purchase that beast? I see you traded down to a 2500 from a 3500 srw????

It really depends on the PIN weight. If it weighs 11,000 empty.... A few ATVs and 100 gallons of water is going to add what... 2000 pounds? So say it weighs 13,000 loaded up... Pin weight should be about 3250 and your stock rear weight of your truck is about 3000. So 6250 on the rear tires... you are RIGHT OVER the max of your rear tires (check the sidewalls). Watch the Load Range on those 285 MT's... aren't those only LR D? Unfortunately the best tires you can get for 17" wheels are Load range E... This is the missing link in the equation. I would say your only choice is to go a little smaller. Nice trailer though!!!

I don't think a Dually would be overloaded at 17,000 GVW though. Rear axles good for 11k, 4 rear tires good for 12K.

Well, I traded a 3500 SWB S.O. Dog. For the 6sp HO. No doubt in my mind this pulls better.
Of course the dealer said we'd be OK.

I know this is pushing it. We'll likely get something in the 32' range instead. Not to mention this trailer costs more than the truck.

I would recomend a Dually to pull that also, it is alot of trailer. You can pull it with your 2500, but controling it and being comfortable is another story.

I have had around 22,000 of trailer weight behind my dually and that is about all you want to drag for any amount of distance.

I don't like the tri axle thing either, like others have pointed out.

Personally, while I'm certainly no expert on the matter, I wouldn't even THINK of pulling it without a dually. With a dually and good brakes on both truck and trailer I'd be pretty comfortable with it.

I think you would be uncomfortable pulling this with your 2500....the other thing I see are the tires are D rated if you ever loaded it to max you would have tire troubles

I pull a 44ft enclosed tri axle trailer and many times load it to GVW of 18000 lbs and it takes being aware all the time while towing....durning poor weather driving can become a white knuckle event

You mite want to look around for something more suitable for your 2500

I run a feed store and we haul are own freight and my boss just came across the scales the other day at 28500 and he never has any problems and its a 2500. if your truck is set up right and have heavy duty ties not 8ply and you your self is confidonte with your driving abiltys all should be fine. I think it all has to do with your experiance and knowning when to down shift and when to shut her down. on a side note his trucks licendes to 26000 scale boss was not happy but eh what can ya do

drw make for a more stable ride, and it is much safer with heavy loads.
