Class III Coupler?
Class III Coupler?
Hi all,
Quick question for all of you, I just bought a trailer that has (what I believe to be) two 3500lb (or maybe bigger?) braking axles and the coupler on it says class 3. Well when I think of class 3 I think of a hitch than can handle 5,000lbs but it is more like 10,000lbs with a weight distribution system so does that mean my coupler is rated at 10k? Just want to make sure it is safe, I'm not wild on the idea of a 2" ball anyway.
The safety chain S hooks also say class 2/3 but it doesn't define how much it is.
Thanks.

Well I got the trailer basically all done today... then I found out that the class 3 is only rated for 5,000lbs. The axles are rated ~5,000lbs each (3" diameter axle with 12" drum brakes) so I guess I have to cut the coupler off and put a real one on.
I didn't think the last guy put the right one on but....
