Break-In With A Load
Break-In With A Load
I have 1600 miles on my truck and had planned on hauling a load as part of the break-in between 500 and 1000 mi.
The miles accumulated faster than planned, but this weekend I am going to load up with about 500 pounds of sand bags as I don't have a trailer yet.
I know this is an essential part of the break-in and welcome any suggestions offered.
Thanks for any responses.

Mike,
Yep your right, The CTD wouldn't even notice it.
Plan two, rent a car trailer and drag it around the Sierra Foothills with my 72' Chevelle on it.
Thanks,
In more ways than one, Marine

Loading and unooading the engine is the key to seating the rings. It can be done with an empty truck or a loaded one but obviously weight and grade will help. Though opinions vary, I believe in heating and cooling cycles as wellas a couple of short interval oil changes. Don't use synthetic otor oil for at least 10-15,000 miles.
Up and down hill, loading and unloading the engine, strain and compresison braking seem to do wonders for longer term performance and properly seated rings.

Do I really have to worry about keeping my speed at 50 mph or below for the first 500 miles towing as the manual states? I'll have between 500 and 600 miles on the truck when we leave.
I'll be towing a 5500 pound travel trailer and the bed of the truck will be loaded with another few hundred pounds of gear and anywhere from 4 to 6 people (only 2 adults) in the cab. Driving 50 mph on Detroit area interstates could get one killed.
After about 30 miles on interstate I'll have 55 mph two lane roads, so the speeds not an issue there.
Thanks
