Battery and trailer question

???I have a friend who is looking for some way to charge a 12volt battery in his horse trailer. Is there a way to wire the connection from trailer to truck that will allow the charging of a battery. Several things he is concerned about is the difference in amperage between the trucks batteries and the trailer one. Possibly a cut off switch in the cab to cut the current to the trailer battery. All suggestions welcom.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Re:Battery and trailer question

Any complete RV store will be able to assist him and have the products he needs. The Battery in the trailer should be a Deep Cycle type. The difference in amperage between trailer and truck batteries won't matter. You can use a battery cut-off switch or an isolater. The factory tow pkg has a 7 wire plug and harness. One of these wires is a hot wire intended to go to the trailer battery. If you are not using the 7wire male plug on your trailer then switch. This male plug sells for less than $10 and usually comes with a color coded diagram.

You might want to check the Good Sam site. The RVers there who tow have good ideas. http://www.goodsamclub.com/forums/index.cfm/CFB/1.cfm
