I worked for a guy years ago hauling hay. We pulled 5 trailers with hay. Lots of talk from neighbours but the police didn't shut us down.

doubles for rec and double for commercial are 2 differant worlds that is one thing that has alot of truckers upset ........ we have to keep logs have hours of service and none of this applies to rv'ers as long as the 5er is rated for tow package and you stay within your lenght laws for where you plan to pul it you will be fine

It's not my length, it's the fact I need to drive thru town to get from one field to the barns. I need to call in advance so they can stop cross traffic.

If you are towing a "light" boat w/aluminum trailer (open alum fishing boat with 35 hp engine, as an example), with a 10% transfer, that might put about 60# on the rear of the 5th wheel - not much more than carrying a generator on the back. On the other hand, if you are talking about an 18' fiberglass with a big engine - different story. The tongue weight on the rear of the 5th whl would be added to the weight of the 5th whl, which with a 25% transfer shouldn't be too much of an issue. You will have elec brakes on the 5th whl, but no brakes on the boat trailer, so weight is an issue. In Florida one cannot tow a double except commercial.

3 rafts = 3,000 lbs, 2 trailers = 5,000 lbs 8K total, approx 55' long definably not a problem.

Backing the last trailer into place...a challenge!

That is the truth!! We were coming back from the dunes and a budy of mine had his 5th wheel loaded (kids & wife in the camper) and a 20' cargo trailer in tow full of wheelers and gear, etc. Well luckily he just made a turn on a not busy hwy and bamm! the camper was sitting on his bed rails and the goose neck hitch looked very crooked. We couldn't see under to see what happened but he was able to drag it accross the road and we put the feet down.

It had ripped the hitch assembly right off the 5th wheel trailer and was hanging by a bent thread of steel. Lucky!!! that we weren't on the road when it broke free!!

We left the camper and carpooled home, returned the next day with welders and chains to try to get it in place to get it to town, that didn't work too well (too windy for a good weld) and we ended up having it rest on the bed rails as we inched our way to the closest town - the longest 30 miles ever!

Luckily we found a guy that had a great welder that helped us get a better weld on it and made the 3 hour ride home. The dealer worked very well with him and resolved the issue and the camper looks great!

I think we learned that goose neck hitches have their limits because it just makes more leverage on the 5th wheel and they aren't designed for that much weight But it was still a fun experience!

Roger that AND if your back trailer is very much heavier than the front one the whole rig will go down the road like a drunken sailor on shore leave. I spent 25 years pulling doubles and triples for a living and we'd re-make the set if needed so that the heaviest box was on the tractor then the next heaviest and so forth.

MN 75 ft

Minnesota is 75 ft but you can only have 30 or so in the center trailer and it must be a fifth wheel. I am at 71 ft....... My toy hauler is 39 ft and I pull a jetski behind it an have never been stoped but there have been alot of looks.......... HAHAHA

Hey arco,

What river/section is that in you photo's?

I've done the Main Salmon several times and did the jet boat back to the put in .

Have any of you jet boat jockies rigged a Cummins to the pump yet?

The last one that did our shuttles had 2 460's in it. we were a "little" overloaded and just about ran out of fuel on the way back up..

The River of no return! can't wait to get back on It..

Diesel's are starting to be popular in jet boats. I have ridden in one that has the 3.2 liter cummins. It spins a larger impeller than the 8.1 liter GM gasser.Elevation doesnt bother them and you can run farm fuel.

Kool....been there, swam that, got the t-shirt on hells canyon as well...wild sheep rapid had me for lunch, swam to shore I was the lead boat (13' Cat) .. started chasing the boat down river on shore ran right through some of the biggest spiders webs I've ever seen in my life.. said to heck with that jumped back in the river...finally caught up with the boat...I just new it was going to the ocean with out me ...

I'd like to see a Cummins in one of those boats I'll have to drop you a note the next trip north! The thing that got me about our jet boat shuttles back up the rio was how you could look over the gunnel and see about 3-4 ft of water in some of the raipidos not to mention finding new ways to torment the yakers with squirt guns....

As for your pucker factor we started a new rapid rating system.. it's how many times you gotta pee before you get back in the raft after scouting the rapid. I had a 4-p scout in the Grand canyon once...dang that was a big wave....blew me right out of the boat..the boat laid down, the guy up front did'nt notice I was gone turned around to give me a Hi-5 and i was MIA...

I could go on and on but stories like these are best told on river banks sharing frosty bevs with fellow river trash that believes you.

yup sure need to get north next summer.

Steve

Hey COLO RIVER
How many P's would you give wild sheep? Granite and Wild Sheep are the biggest I've been through.
I live just 150 miles from Corn creek on the Salmon and make regular trips there

Arco,

Sounds like your my new best friend...wild sheep was only about a 2+P..the thing nice about it is the water was great swimming temp vs the G.C. which starts out at 42 degrees... You go from heat stroke to hypothermia in the first 20' of the rapid. Had a cool day on the salmonella once. river was a degree warmer than the air temp as it was snowing..

My first 4P was Horn Creek on the 89 Grand trip..I put on wet suit, crash helmet, gloves and beat the clips over on the pins so they would not blow off..

Ah yeah life is a Grand!
