Airbags and Unloaded Ride Quality

I've done some searching but can't seem to find the answer to this question.

Will rear airbags adversely affect the unloaded ride quality when kept at the recommended minimum of 5psi? I would really like to get a set for the rear, but it's just not worth it if they'll make the ride noticeably harsher when empty.

The trailer I pull now is only 5k lbs and it's just enough tongue weight to make the overload leaves touch, but not enough to compress them when hitting bumps in the road. This makes for an unusually bumpy ride when towing (I'm used to a smoother ride when towing or hauling). I figured the air bags would really help if I can inflate them an inch or two and keep the overloads from hitting with the 5k back there. My new trailer will be a healthy 11-13k when loaded, so I don't think the overloads will feel so stiff then!

I have had a set of them for over 2 years now, and they will not affect the ride empty at the 5 psi.

Awesome...that's just the answer I was looking for! Thanks.

That brings me to a follow-up question. What's the best airbag kit to buy? Seems like you can't go wrong with the Firestone Ride-Rites and it looks like they're about the same price as the others. Any benefits/reasons to go with another brand?

I ran bags for years on the "97" and now have them on '06". Wouldn't be without'em. Never know they are there till you fill'em up.

Ditto....I have been running Airlift Superduty bags on 3 different trucks for 8 years.....At 5 psi, there is absolutely no distinguishable difference in ride quality or load control compared to not having bags at all.

I also would never be without them!

Empty, I think my truck rides better with than without bags.
Also need to check the pressure and make sure it is holding above 5psi now that temps are slipping into single digits
