Air/exhaust mods complete can I tow at a higher Juice setting?
Question for all you experts. I have a toy hauler that I use to tow three motorcycles to races. I was running the Juice w/attitude at level 2 towing about 8,000lbs on my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel truck. My question is I have just added a AFE Stage 2 air intake system and a MBRP 4" exhaust can I run the Juice at a higher level? Playing around I see that towing an 8000lb load I get much better fuel milage running at higher settings. I just want to make sure that as long as my EGT's are low enough can I bump up the setting?
Thanks |
I know Edge recomends you don't tow at the higher settings, but I have tinkered and towed a little bit in level 3. What I noticed was it is easy to get the EGT's up above where they normally run in level 2. However I haven't tried it on any of the bigger & longer hills I tow on because I was afraid of transmission damage. Now that I've torn the trans up and am getting the DTT I might just have to continue my research.

Since you have the Attitude monitor test it out for yourself. Set it to 3 and start pulling. Just keep an eye on the EGT.

I guess my question is if my EGT's are under control is there anything else I should be worried about? I'm most concerned about the transmission, will running on a higher setting potentially mess with the transmission or anything else? Or as long as my egt's are good is that the only thing I really need to watch?
Thank you Z |
I haven't done any mods to mine for that very reason. After reading & posting several threads, I have come to the conclusion that if you don't want to do any preventative upgrades to the tranny, that you will have problems if you are not very careful.
