Question 5th wheel + GooseNeck Hitch

I'm looking to put in best dual 5th/gooseneck hitch solution (will be towing both: goose soon, 5th later). If you planned to do both (on a short-bed, like mine) what would be the best product/solution? I'm leaning towards the SuperGlide (18K) with the GooseNeck adapter (w/ball).

TIA,
Dane

eta I got this input so far (from other thread):

I'd have to agree with 4x4Freak. I've got the B&W gooseneck in my truck now, just haven't bought the Companion 5th wheel setup yet. I like it, the only holes in the bed are the one 4" for the ball and 4 for the safety chain hooks. Easy installation and has worked great for me.

My old truck had the 5th wheel rails in the bed, I hated it, always swapping out the gooseneck plate and the 5th wheel hitch, plus when I wasn't towing, them rails were always in the way.

I'm a big fan of the B&W myself it has more options for towing hookups..Click on the Accs tab to check out the hook-up options. It only takes about 2 hrs to install..

Prior to switching to my Bradford Flatbed; I had the B&W setup. Both the GN and the Companion. Really a good bit and B&W is a great outfit. Definitely reccomend this setup.

Ok, Im not disagreeing with these guys on the B&W, its a great hitch. But Dane needs a slider because he's driving a MEGACAB, not a quad cab. This is important because the mega has a shorter bed, therefore we have clearance problems. Dane, I suggest you go with the superglide, I have it, and I know from experience, as I too pull gooseneck horse trailers as well as my fifth wheel travel trailer. You won't be disappointed, its a great hitch. If you have any questions or need anymore info, shoot me a PM.

Thanks for the input. I've been investigating the B&W turnover ball product a bit. Seems the best option for GN. I realize trying to get the best for both 5th + GN will be a compromise. I think, for the 5th, I really want/need a slider with the short-bed. The B&W product does not slide (manual nor auto), correct?

It may actually be quite a while before I get the 5th though... so the best compromise might be to get the B&W turnover and be able to enjoy the use of the bed when not towing (no rails).

Thanks txfiremedic! ~ we were typing at the same time, apparently.
I can shoot you a PM but may as well get some details out here for anyone else curious. Seems as though it would be a fairly common scenario but I did not get anything on the searches.

Slider desired indeed! Do you run the superglide with that same gooseneck adapter I linked? If you would be so kind perhaps you could share details on how involved the adding/removing of the GN adapter is, any installation experience, etc.,. General question on the superglide - how difficult is it to remove and how much space is taken up in the bed? (I can search on that last q).

Thanks again!
Dane

Dane, the B&W does NOT slide, and to answer your second question, with the superglide, you can still use the bed when not towing. The hitch is attached to truck by 4 pins that once the hitch is taken off the pins, the pins rotate and lift out so you are left with nothing in your bed other than 4 -2 inch holes that the pins drop down and secure into.

You are correct on the non-slide function of the B&W they do offer a 4" extender for the GN hookup...as you short boxers do have a clearance problem.
there are pics in my profile of my setup...

I tried that also, made for a ruff ride with my trailer, caused BAD bucking of the trailer, and IMO put stress on the kingpen of the trailer. I decided that I didn't want to put that much leverage on the pin possibly damaging the frame of my $40,000 trailer

You guys already had your !

LOL! I'm trying to keep up - seems my additional questions are answered even before I finish my post.

Thanks again txfiremedic! If the superglide removes down to that, it's a 100% golden solution for my application(s). Is it heavy/difficult removal process? And how about the switch with the GN adapter? (easy?)

Cheers,
Dane

It is heavy, but SUPER easy to take out, the pins that go through the bed have a hole in them, the hitch sits on those and have a pin that goes through the hitch and them. You pull those out, lift the hitch off of them and then those pins just twist and lift out of the bed. I know you won't be dissappointed, its a great hitch, my only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner!

"BFT" indeed. 10" had me curious (world's shortest short-bed?). 10' - now that makes sense.

Ok, just a couple more questions and this thread is a wrap.

Which superglide model did you go with? From their website, there seems to be three GN adapter model options:
¹ To be used with 16K & 20.5 Super 5th
² To be used with 25.5 & Low Profile Super 5th
³ To be used with 14K or 18K SuperGlide
How does the GN adapter install? I'm guessing it mounts somewhere to the base-plate and doesn't also slide.

Thanks again!

I have the 18K superglide. The gooseneck plate just sits down on those 4 pins just like the hitch does. Super Easy!!
