Two weeks before I bought my first 5th wheel off of E bay, I bought a brand new over the rail aluminum box. When installing my hitch, the installers all told me it had to go or when turning and backing the two would touch sending the box into my cab. Since I have been camping a lot, I have talked to several full timers who have told me stories of this happening. I still don't know how in a long bed, but I took mine out, sold it, and now I have a under the rail chest. I don't like it near as much, but I don't have to worry about it.

If you have over the rail and get into a sloped site which requires a deep turn, you could hit the box. Stick to the one even with the rails and you don't have to worry about it. I have the RDS tool box/aux tank combo. Not as much storage for tools, but sure is nice to have an extra 40 gallons of go juice.

I did tear up one ontop of the bed tool box and the corner of my gooseneck on a turn/uphill (the gooseneck was repairable the toolbox wasn't)......I now only use the toolboxes that sit level with the top of the bed sidewalls.....and these type toolboxes give me allot more storage

You may get a number of responses from individuals who have over-the-rail boxes and haven't had a problem - yet. I went with a WeatherGuard box that sits in the bed and is flush with the rails, and I'm extremely satisfied with it - no problems whatsoever.
