2nd Gen backup camera recommendation?
2nd Gen backup camera recommendation?
Hello;
Just wondering if any of you guys have a backup camera for a 2nd gen. I'm interested in getting one. What do you like or don't like?
I was thinking it would be nice if they made these that could connect to my phone by wireless connection so I would not need to run wires or mount a monitor in the cab.
Even better if the camera was battery powered with a magnetic base so I could could store it in the cab when not in use
I don't pull a trailer everyday, but would be nice for when I need to hook mine up.
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

i need one just for my trailer hitch to back up under the ball....My wife cannot direct me .
I tried one on the back of a 28 ft camper , but when you swing backing, will loose the signal at times , but its still worth having...

Never used one so know nothing about them, not battery powered either but you could tie it into the reverse light circuit at the back of the truck for power no problem.

Hunterbob --- that's what I'm wanting it for too; primarily just for when I am hooking up my trailer.
BarryG --- Thanks for the link, that doesn't look too bad.
I'm gonna keep shopping around though. I don't want one on the license plate, I think the first time I bring home a load of gravel or firewood I would damage the camera when unloading. All kinds of stuff falls between the tailgate and bed floor when I do this.

Check this one out:
Looks to be just what I'm looking for.
Seems like I found what the wife can get me for a father's day present!

Not sure if you folks are interested but Garmin has a bluetooth back up camera set up for some of their GPS. I am using the Dezel unit because I can input the specs for when hauling campers and the like so I don't end up in bad areas. These units can be set up to 40' apart. I have been using mine for almost a year and love it.
I bought this one for my truck about two years ago:

It does bolt to the license plate, but I've had nothing happen to it yet, even when hauling firewood. It is hard wired so there is no transmitter/receiver issues. It's not high definition, but that does not affect it's performance for me.
Really makes lining up a trailer hitch super easy, I get it on the first try every time for left/right alignment. Depth perception stinks, though I am usually only a few inches away from the hitch and just get out an look to see how much farther back I need to go. I wired mine to an in cab toggle switch so I can turn it on whenever I want, and usually keep it on when towing to keep an eye on the hitch.
