17 in tires What is your choice??

My 03 came with Goodyear wrangler GSA LT 235/ 80 R 17 I am going to have to replace them , They are almost worn out. I have not been real happy with them and they are really expensive. What is a good replacement. I tow a hay trailer and a horse trailer and have to drive in the pastures and a fair amount of snow. All so is there a size that is a little shorter and would give me more clearence brtween the bed rails and my gooseneck trailer? Thanks David in Va.

I had those Badyear tires too...poor excuse for a tire and the badyear store told me it was my alignment that was causing the poor wear. Perfect wear with the new tires without an alignment...Last time I went to get an alignement all was within spec.

I went to a Toyo HT [mud and snow highway tread] in the same size for my dually. Not sure if there is a Toyo in a 10 ply with a more agressive tread for your needs but these are by far the best tires I have ever had on a truck. I sore my Michelin LTX but not anymore.
You can air these up high and not have the bounce of the BadyearAllyear tires and they are just better then the Michelins.

As for shorter, not sure about that in an E rated tire either.

Hey , Thanks for the info. Do you have a rough idea what you paid for them?

Damned Daimler couldn't use a standard 16 or 19.5, they had to go to an oddball size. I struggled for weeks trying to get a set of 17's from my local tire shop for my wife's 1500, only to give up and go back with Badyears. Now, of course there are plenty of choices, but not two years ago.

i think choices on 235 17's are still pretty bad. 245's and 265's are pretty common but that won't work on his dually.

I paid 201.00 canadian per tire installed and balance plus tax.

The baddestyeartire store wanted to give me a deal at 370 per tire. I waited until these TOYO tires came out and got them. I got the first set in that size in western Canada.

Started running Michelin Ltx,s on mine I'm still waiting for them to make an XPS in this size. I got mine for around 200 each. I tow a lot and Michelin's have been a good tire for me. If you run a shorter tire it will lower your gear ratio
