Server Speed no Stops

The server seems to be pretty fast tonight. And I have not gotten that poke in the eye from the graphic stating “administrator does not allow blah blah…at this time…” Did you guys fix something?

Nope, just a lucky night I suppose. nothing is really broken, but the server is overloaded on many evenings. Once the new one comes in, that should almost never be an issue.

should have knocked on wood or not said anything. Got the dreaded poke in the eye tonight. Sure was nice while it lasted. Ever thought about a fundraiser for the server? Its a shame to have to entice folks to cough up a little. How about For x amount you get a treat, like maybe a DTR sticker or for XX amount they might be entitled to a "special" avatar? Probably already been hashed out in another thread. Oh well all good things come to those……you know.

You can search to your hearts content by using the Google button at the bottom of the page

That special avatar idea doesn't pan out as that requires more server space, a catch 22 situation if I ever saw one. We will be getting a new server, we are getting closer in funds all the time.

We have had server fundraisers in the past, and we're getting there. Another month or so and we'll be able to make a purchase. Personal avatars will never come back. It's not a server space thing, but rather, people like to take 500k files and reduce them to 50x50 and use them as avatars, making 10 second downloads turn into 10 minute downloads for dialup users. In addition, what else do you want us to do, make your bed? This is a resource and that is what you get for your donation. I can't give out toasters. I've always wondered why some people have such a strong sense of entitlement. The real shame is that I've put out 20k+ out of pocket on this thing, to provide a free resource. Lary and others have put hundreds of hours or more. Yet it takes us months, almost a year to get a couple grand for a machine that provides a great FREE resource to it's users, and here I am being asked to provide treats for the users.

I'm sorry if I seem frustrated, but this site has been up for 4 years now, and I get asked the same things hundreds of times, and it just amazes me every single time I get asked this kind of thing. Everybody wants more more more, but only a very few actually do something about it.

Jack: I hope you are not directing your statements to me. I do not want anything more from DTR than what is already provided. I enjoy the site tremendously as I am sure most do. I have donated to DTR and expect nothing in return not even a sticker. As far as the promotional fund raiser aspect, I was wondering if it might help add funds to the cause, that’s all. I apologize if I did not construe my intentions, feelings correctly.

I agree with DustyRock. I have already donated, but myself and surely others would happily pay ten or fifteen bucks for a DTR sticker to help keep this great site running.
Just a thought.

They're conditioned for it, it seems, anymore.

Ford dealers sometimes "give" a compter to you "free" with a purchase of a car. Radio stations give away a lot of stuff, including money. Buy one, get one free deals. Game shows are giving out larger sums of money (Who Wants To Be a Millionaire), and more expensive prizes.

And last, but NOT least, the goverment entitlments. Giving out OUR (taxpayers) money to freeloading parsites and leaches.

Lots of people have their hands out, saying, "Gimme, gimme, gimme." And they have the nerve to be mad at you, if you won't give them what they want.
