I'll get around to donating 100 or 200 in the next year or so.

I understand this thread goes back a ways, but how are we doing in real time? Has the DTR bought anything new recently and what are we donating to buy for now?

We're holding that money for when the time comes to buy new hardware. Right now, we have been able to put into place a lot of efficiencies that have allowed us to keep the current hardware. That money sits in its own account ready to go in case of hardware emergency, for software upgrades and for new servers when the time comes. I can tell you that in a few months, we'll need to consider separating search functions from the rest of the site. This will cost us some money.

I'm guessing it would mean offloading the search feature (whether it be with a complete different search "engine" or maybe you can offload it through vBulliten on to a different piece of hardware. Searching through all the databases that every post on here is stored in uses a lot of CPU time, or "power". That is why the search is limited to every 60 seconds, to keep the load down and/or to prevent a denial of service attack that would use up all the CPU time by a malicious script that would continually search through the database.

I'm on this site often, and know it cost money to keep it going. Sending some that way, hope it helps a little. Thanks...Burk
