offroad section?

I wonder if there would be sufficient interest in a separate offroad/4wd section? Unless I'm mistaken, the majority of the CTD trucks sold have transfer cases in them .

Topics I would like to see include how the CTD performs offroad, driving techniques, extraction techniques and equipment, offroad tire choices, after market parts and equipment such as lifts, shocks, etc. etc. all stuff related to using and equipping the CTD for off road.

Re:offroad section?

was thinking about that but I'm suspicous that the traffic will be of such a moderate volume as to accomodate not only the 3rd gen, but the 1st gen 12valvers as well. Some things like winch selection wouldn't matter. othere things like what grille guard or front receiver hitch to use would just have to be explained as to what truck was involved.

It just occured to me that a lot of guys work their trucks where there is no pavement -- either recreationally or not -- and that this usage associates to a unique set of experiences and equipment choices and upgrades. I'm sure it depends alot on how you want to structure the high performance aftermarket section, though. you might have some confusion as to where to discuss suspension lifts and shocks, for example.

Re:offroad section?

Just kidding about the 3rd gen forum. Just poking a little fun after watching that whole thread the other day. I think an off road forum would be a nice way to keep that type of topic easy to track. Unfortunately my truck gets stuck looking at dirt. My jeep on the other hand...
That was one of the reasons to buy the truck so I could get a little crazier with the jeep and not worry about having to drive it home. The truck pulls it very well thank you. Each vehicle for it’s purpose. Would the off-road forum only be for Diesels or could us regular off-roaders hop in there as well?
Re:offroad section?

well its not my call obviously, but since "diesel" is the first word in this forum's title, I'd expect that not many gasser types hang out here. But all the 2500 and 3500 trucks, including the V10, would be welcome if it were up to me; its just that there are other resources available to the gassers that might be more suitable.

things unique to the CTD offroad include the puke bottle, the 1000 lbs + weight of the engine, and the front end stresses associated with that, spring, and suspension choices and upgrades, self extraction gear that is up to the task, tire choices that are offroad worthy and can take the weight, driving with a bombed engine and how well everything handles, pulling utility trailers offroad, hitch choices, etc.. I'd like to see what guys do to their rigs and see pictures/video clips of offroad adventures, getting unstuck, etc.

As they are. I've been hanging out on this site since it started...but I've only been a diesel owner for about three weeks. I've talked about everything from......well, everything. Even got advice on what the best exhaust system was to give my V-8 Ford gasser that nice, V-8 rumble. ;D

Re:offroad section?

I'd think that a Dodge Ram diesel specific offroad forum would be nice.
I think that if we didn't limimit it to the diesels the 1500 gassers could overrun the forum and the hints given there might prove useless or even dangerous when applied to the heavier diesels.
Since driving technique and extraction should be quite the same for all the generations of diesels on this forum I'd think this could be appropriate.

AlpineRAM

Re:offroad section?

An off-road forum would be great. I go trail running with what I have now, and can't wait to see what my truck, if it ever comes, will do. Most of my off-road experiernce is in MUDDY and ROCKY construction sites, lucky me. I'm up for any and all information that might be useful in ANY off road situation. Just my opinion, though.
