New user first post thread necromancy
In the last few months there seem to be a lot of new users who resurrect very old threads, sometimes with replies that kind of fit the question asked more than a decade ago, sometimes no correlation to the thread content.
Many of these new users seem to disappear after their first post, never to be seen again.
Maybe the use of some captcha a the registration process could weed some of them out?

I'm convinced many, if not most of them are trolls directed here from - where?...The bowels of Hell perhaps...Knowing something of the registration process from my administrative duties elsewhere, it takes a unique email address to open a new account, a feat easily done, but seems time consuming for so little gain...It seems inconceivable that someone (or multiple someones) would devote that much time and energy to such a project just to satisfy a burning desire to irritate others, but I suppose more time has been wasted by some for less gain...It might be fruitful for an admin here to analyze the IP's of these latecomer, one-and-done members for similarities...It's also relatively easy to check these for entries on known spam lists...If a pattern can be found, it is possible to ban registration from particular IP addresses, even entire blocks...That's my only suggestion, but I don't know whether any admins have that much time to spare...

We run ALL new registrations thru a IP address check and sometimes a Spam check as well if they meet certain criteria. You would not believe the number of scoundrels we prevent from getting on this forum from all this effort!, but of course a few will get by and then we boot them as soon as we recognize they are not legitimate members.
Internet Brands told me a while back that we have the fewest cases of spam on our forum than any of their other forums, Proof positive the extra effort pays off even though it is time consuming

That's good to know, Lary...I always find it remarkable that some slackers in the digital universe have even less to occupy their time left on Earth than I do...And unfortunately no one has yet invented an effective troll filter...

I must say that this is actually very rare on this site, but I assumed some kind of new bot.
But since I am mostly in the 2nd gen forum maybe my perspective is a little skewed.
